Please note before they spin it: he DID NOT SAY that Obama regreted what he said, he just said he regrets that those comments are distracting the media. I take that as an indictment of the media, not Obama or his comments. He is basically telling them they are easily distracted.

"Chuck Todd WH press sec Gibbs is gaggling off cam... big take-away, president regrets that Gates comments are distracting media and if he knew it would, he'd have not commented"

ON EDIT: From Jake Tapper

"Gibbs sez of Gates remarks POTUS "probably would regret distracting you guys with obsessions," (per @yunjid)"

2. What this means as well is that there will be a White House press briefing today and. . .
. . .the media will waste a significant amount of time badgering Gibbs about this and try to back him into saying something stupid.

4. And Gibbs should respond that the President does not regret his
statement in the least, he does regret that the media does not concern themselves with the more important issues of the day...Slam...

7. Of course. I'm sure the MSM is poutraged again and will try to
justify their non-stop coverage of the comment. It should be an interesting presser. I think Gibbs has had enough of their whining.
