3. Exactly why the media is failing so badly in recent years, look at health care news for an example
The media today has become too reactionary to short term stuff, and making the news fit their stories.

Take Biden for example, towards the end of the 08 elections he was giving the media more access to him then Obama, McCain, or Palin, yet we never heard any stories about Biden, other then when he made a verbal gaffe.

On health care reform a recent analysis of the media showed they're over hyping all the perceived setbacks, and ignoring the steps forward we're taking on it, such as the improved CBO numbers for a health care plan with a public option that the CBO said covered more and cost less, yet you'd never know that watching the TV media, there was only one news story on it.

The media would be better serving us when we're debating real issues like health care by ignoring the radical voices on both sides saying "it's socialized medicine" and "covering everyone lowers costs" if they were to look at what's not working in our system now to highlight what we need to fix. Or better yet, look at other countries health care systems, especially those who have tried the kinds of changes we're considering now, and report to people what worked and what didn't work at controlling costs while providing people the care they need.

But no, instead of that kind of responsible coverage we get horror stories about how bad 'socialized medicine' is, or what radical lunatics like Rush are saying about health care reform.

9. It's MUCH easier to cover than
all the moving parts of health insurance reform. Plus, it's something that has an emotional aspect to it. Medicare reimbursment rates don't.

10. I've been amazed at similiar things for years.
In the movies... if you're old enough, do you remember how the sunglasses Arnold wore in The Terminator became a sensation? Or how tiramisou was THE dessert to have after Sleepless in Seattle was released? How do people latch on to these small things? It has to be how the media (entertainment media in this case) manipulates people. If the media is doing it in entertainment and doing it successfully why wouldn't they do it in politics? Just a thought...

and prefer simple issues to focus on, according to studies done about Conservatives.

The media knows this, and plays to the lowest common denominator in their audience.

16. Obama did it to himself, he is the bully
He is the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Nobody forced the irresponsible words out of his mouth. He did it all by himself.

Who has the power, the President or a Cambridge PD Sergeant? There is no question who the most powerful person in the world is, the one with the biggest bully position, and it isn't the Cambridge Sergeant.

Get your blinders off, if you can.

31. Agree. He said the police acted stupidly while admitting he did not have the facts of the case.
If he simply passed on the question during the press conference, this wouldn't be a blown up issue as it is now.

Compare that to the Bush Cheney martial law era.

Bush Weighed Using Military in U.S. Arrests

WASHINGTON — Top Bush administration officials in 2002 debated testing the Constitution by sending American troops into the suburbs of Buffalo to arrest a group of men suspected of plotting with Al Qaeda, according to former administration officials.

21. Brilliance on their part...
Obama's press conference on Health Care Reform boiled down to one word: stupidly.

Buried the main issue and let Congress scoot off for summer vacation unnoticed.

Brilliant.

29. This is why I say it was Obama who acted stupidly.
The media set a trap for him and he walked right into it. I'd have expected more from a man of his brains. He knows they're not his allies, and he comes out with not having all the facts but the police acted stupidly anyway? Outside of calling Crowley a redneck racist, he couldn't have made a worse political move. I'd have expected this from Bush, not our guy.

32. That's all they can do, since their agenda has nothing good to
offer the American people. The Republicans couldn't very well open up and tell them
"I am here doing my best to rip off every red cent you've got." So, they have to
lie, deceive and cheat.

What's really amazing to me, though, is that so many Americans fall for their
lying, deceiving and cheating.
