Dr. David McKalip apologizes for Barack Obama-Witch Doctor e-mail
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 11:51 AM by Why Syzygy
Self excuses included. I hope he damaged his cause more than he can imagine.

July 24, 2009 at 6:38 am by Wayne Garcia

From St. Pete’s best known anti-tax neurosurgeon, Dr. David McKalip, comes this e-mail apology this morning for the Barack Obama-as-Witch Doctor e-mail I chronicled late yesterday afternoon:

I have had a very hard day. When you stand up and fight effectively for freedom and to protect the rights of patients from control by the government and insurance companies – you develop powerful enemies. They have used the opportunity of a lapse in judgment to try to discredit me since they can’t discredit my arguments. I am proud of my accomplishments in this fight. I am more proud of the hundreds of thousands of Americans I have come to know who feel as I do and are willing to stand up for freedom. The next few days will be difficult, and I ask for your support.

DR. DAVID MCKALIP SENDS APOLOGY DIRECTLY TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

McKalip apologizes for sending insensitive image via e-mail

St. Petersburg, FL (July 23, 2009) – David McKalip, M.D., brain and spine neurosurgeon of St. Petersburg has never been shy in expressing where he stands regarding President Barack Obama’s health-care reform. Despite McKalip’s position on health system reform, he sends a sincere apology for a forwarded image of President Obama in an e-mail depicting the president in Papua New Guinean tribal garb with a logo beneath it saying, “Obama Care.”

“I genuinely regret the decision I made in passing this e-mail message along. Directly to President Obama, I sincerely apologize for offending him. This was, in no way whatsoever, my intention. The image has nothing to do with my feelings or thoughts on any race or culture. I recognize that this image is offensive and hope that the nation refocuses on assuring all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable health care with no party interfering in the patient-physician relationship. My intention is to focus directly on the issue at hand, which is putting financial and decision-making power into the hands of patients and taking it from government and insurance companies,” said McKalip.

The image forwarded was from a long chain of e-mails and not created by McKalip.

4. That photoshop
makes me so angry, I have no words. It is just about the most disgraceful thing I've ever laid eyes on.

So much for honoring our nation and our leaders. People who think this is funny are PIGS.

3. Flood of calls ..
ST. PETERSBURG -- A prominent St. Petersburg doctor and conservative activist has drawn a flood of criticism for e-mailing an image depicting President Obama as a witch doctor with a loin cloth, exotic head dress and bones in his nose.

``ObamaCare, coming soon to a clinic near you,'' reads the caption on the e-mail forwarded earlier this week by St. Petersburg neurosurgeon David McKalip.

Several popular liberal blogs, including Talking Points Memo, Huffington Post and Daily Kos, highlighted McKalip's e-mail Thursday and castigated him for racism. McKalip said he was flooded with calls from people attacking him over the e-mail, which he said he had forwarded to ``a limited group'' of about 150 people.

``I am not a racist. I am simply a person speaking up to make sure patients don't get hurt by the government and by insurance companies,'' said McKalip, who earlier this month organized ``tea party'' rallies across Florida denouncing Obama's healthcare overhaul proposals.

``Because I've been so effective in pointing out how the government plans are going to hurt patients in very serious ways the only way they can neutralize my message is to discredit me personally.''

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/florida/story/1155168.html

Of course he is making excuses all over the place, claiming his 'legitimate' cause "made him do it" and he is being attacked due to his SUCCESS! TYPICAL repuke. They are so damn predictible.

7. Gotta love the victim spin on that explanation.
Yes, Dr., you are the victim.

How dare anyone call you out for forwarding a despicable and racist image and attaching your personal comments about how funny you think it is.

Some crazy liberal must have unknowingly hypnotized you into doing such knowing that they could later embarrass you in the press and derail your noble mission to make sure that poor people who have brain tumors won't be able to afford your services.

Yes, it's a conspiracy......:eyes:

Or maybe you're just a racist, bigoted, greedy, selfish, high-priced specialty surgeon who wants to make sure you keep the cash flowing.

I think I'll go with the second explanation. Thanks.

12. TPM has the best story.
I wanted to post from a 'neutral' news source in the OP.

He has help with his victim status. Using this *logic*, any liberals who opposed Bush for 8 years were victims!
Anyone make a mocking photoshop of Bush? They were VICTIMS! waaambulance!
(I'm afraid to ask what Jib Jab videos are.)

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/07/citing_email_flap_mckalip_says_hell_withdraw_from.php

In response, one recipient, Robin Stublen, listed as the "FL Co-State Coordinator Tea Party Patriots" wrote:
What we cant tell them to kiss our white ass anymore? Man you guys are no fun at all.

Later, after McKalip had apologized, Stublen wrote that what McKalip had done in sending the email was "no different than what liberals did for eight years with Bush cartoons" and "no different than the passing of Jib Jab videos that we all have shared." Stublen called McKalip a "victim," and a "great man fighting for a great cause" and charged that "radical members of the left" had tried to "silence" him. (...)

I realize why you have apologized and respect your decision to do so. Yet, I want you to know that you never offended Obama. My guess he has never seen the picture in question and more than likely never will. What has happened is that you, my friend are a victim. You like millions of us across this great country of both parties saw something that was humorous to you and you passed it along to your like minded friends. This is no different than what liberals did for eight years with Bush cartoons. This is no different than the passing of Jib Jab videos that we all have shared. You are no different. You are human. (...) :puke:

17. Don't fear JibJab videos.....go to jibjab.com and you'll have a good laugh.
They're animated videos -- mostly political stuff -- and they send up everyone.

They did a video about Obama that they played at the Press Association dinner -- I remember one segment showing the President riding a unicorn over a rainbow......and he had a good laugh over it.

So, these morons don't know of what they speak and it's pretty sad and horrific that in their tiny, racist minds they are able to conflate the good natured fun of jibjab with their disgusting and racist crap.

But, do check out jibjab. Nothing to fear.

he made sure to add his own perspective on it by adding "Funny stuff" BEFORE forwarding it.

I hope this PYA 'apology' does NOT take the pressure off to expose this racist POS.

Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 12:07 PM by Why Syzygy
He got some HEAT on this! Maybe our country will survive after all.

One source reported that the Florida Medical Association "encouraged" him to apologize directly to PRESIDENT Obama. And of course some of the public comments are crying "foul" because the big bad MSM was so mean to Bush and no one said a WORD. No mention of Bush's special force of snipers and caged "free speech zones". ..

Citing Email Flap, McKalip Says He'll Withdraw From Public Debate Over Healthcare
By Zachary Roth - July 24, 2009, 12:40PM

Dr. David McKalip has told fellow conservative activists that thanks to the flap over his racist email showing President Obama as a witch doctor, he will no longer appear publicly in opposition to health-care reform.

He still has not clued in that someone on the email 'list' is disgusted with him and his racist shit and is forwarding his crap to expose him. There is stupid and then there is STUPID, this guy fits under the latter as opposed to the former.

Geez, and this guy is a neurosurgeon!?!? Yikes!

13. So this doc wants people to trust his judgement about why "Obamacare"
is so bad yet lacks the judgement to see that this e-mail was offensive and racist? Why would people trust any kind of judgement coming from him after this? For the sake of his patients, I hope his surgical judgement is on a much, much higher level.

18. RW two-step plan:
1) do something really, really racist;
2) apologize for it and expect to get away with it.

Or in place of #2, go on Limpballs or Lou Dobbs and defend it.

State Rep. Darryl Rouson calls on controversial doctor to resign

ST. PETERSBURG-- State Rep. Darryl Rouson said he will call for the resignation of the president-elect of the Pinellas County Medical Association and a board member of the Florida Medical Association after the doctor sent out an e-mail of an image depicting President Barack Obama as a witch doctor with a loin cloth, exotic head dress and bones in his nose.

"This is absolutely terrible," wrote Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, in an e-mail to the St. Petersburg Times Thursday night. "I am immediately calling for his resignation and for the FMA to right now distance themselves from this outrageous act." (...)

Fla Medical Association, state Rep. denounce activist doctor's e-mail

The fallout continues from the story broken by Talking Points
Memo about prominent St. Petersburg doctor
David McKalip forwarding an image depicting Barack Obama as a witch doctor. McKalip is president-elect of the Pinellas Medical Association and on the board of the Florida Medical Association, which slapped him hard with the following statement:

"The Florida Medical Association is an organization with a zero-tolerance for racist or discriminatory behavior. As such, we do not condone the circulation of what has been described by the press as a racist depiction of President Obama by David McKalip, MD.Dr. McKalip’s actions do not in anyway reflect the positions, attitudes or culture of the Florida Medical Association.

The Florida Medical Association finds the actions by Dr. McKalip to be hurtful and in poor judgment. Further, we find his actions disrespectful to President Obama and the Office of the President. The Florida Medical Association is disappointed by Dr. McKalip’s actions and urges Dr. McKalip to extend President Obama an apology for this egregious deed."

27. It'd be great irony if all of this criticism gave that racist asshole McKalip a fatal aneurysm.
Neurosurgeon dropping dead from a neurological condition.

I can think up plenty of ideas for photoshopped images implying someone is incompetent on health care issues -- without resorting to racist imagery. I won't suggest them here, though -- no sense giving the freepers ideas. (Note: I personally do not believe President Obama is incompetent on health care issues.)

That McKalip chose to forward this blatantly racist image has proven to all the world that he's a racist little shit, and that he doesn't mean this apology. I hope the stress does him some serious harm.
