Another viewpoint on Obama/Gates
Had Obama not been black, would his opinion have been asked for by the press on the subject? Would he have been asked if we remove his friendship with Gates from the equation? Will Obama be sought after as the "black" opinion on any sort of racial subject, whereas a white president might not get asked out of general fear of stirring up trouble? Does anyone recall if Bush was asked directly about the Imus or Lott remarks?

2. Would the story have been newsworthy if Gates had NOT been a friend of the POTUS?

I think that's the jump off right there.

(and by newsworthy, I mean nationally, black men get profiled every day and no one cares)
