CNN doing its part to promote RW distortions about health care reform

5 freedoms you'd lose in health care reform

If you read the fine print in the Congressional plans, you'll find that a lot of cherished aspects of the current system would disappear.

By Shawn Tully, editor at large
July 24, 2009: 10:17 AM ET

<...>

Let's explore the five freedoms that Americans would lose under Obamacare:

1. Freedom to choose what's in your plan...

2. Freedom to be rewarded for healthy living, or pay your real costs...

3. Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage...

4. Freedom to keep your existing plan...

5. Freedom to choose your doctors...

more

FACTS

America’s middle class deserves better. Here’s what America’s Affordable Health Choices Act means for you:

LOWER COSTS

  • No more co-pays or deductibles for preventive care
  • No more rate increases for pre-existing conditions, gender, or occupation
  • An annual cap on your out-of-pocket expenses
  • Group rates of a national pool if you buy your own plan
  • Guaranteed, affordable oral, hearing, and vision care for your kids
GREATER CHOICE

  • Keep your doctor, and your current plan, if you like them
  • More choice, with a high quality public health insurance option competing with private insurers
HIGHER QUALITY

  • You and your doctors make health care decisions — not insurance companies
  • More family doctors and nurses will enter the workforce, helping guarantee access
  • Mental health care must be covered
STABILITY & PEACE OF MIND

  • No more coverage denials for pre-existing conditions
  • No more lifetime limits on how much insurance companies will pay
  • No reason to ever make a job or life decision again based on health care coverage
more

Maybe CNN can spend a little more time reporting facts in the interest of Americans, not the RW and insurance companies.

13. They're protecting their ad revenues. Insurance, pharma, and financial services.
Without their ad money, CNN would be on life support.

5. Lies from CNN?
Why, I'm just astonished.

I LOVE this one: Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage...

That's EXACTLY the same argument that was used against wage & hour and worker safety laws. People should be free to choose to work 18 hours a day in deplorable conditions- under which they fell ill and died young.

See e.g. Lochner v. New York.

14. No, they haven't -
I just posted one. I said:
"Drivel.
The only "cherished aspect" of the current system to disappear will be the insurance companies' cherished ability to gouge you, deny you care, and then dump you when your medical bills threaten the CEO's ability to buy his new yacht."

12. It's a fact that the reform bill will include high quality public health insurance?
When did this happen?

That would be great if true.
