PHOTOS: In the Absence of Jackeens, who is sorely missed.

I have to say that I'm embarrassed, but due to all the breathless media hub-bub surrounding Dr. Gates, I had no idea the President was signing an ADA anniversary proclamation today. I love our media, and what they think is important. NOT!

1) U.S. President Barack Obama greets the U.S. Marines Barrack mascot "Chesty" after the Evening Parade in Washington July 24, 2009.

2) President Barack Obama, right, stands with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a signing of a proclamation celebrating the 19th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in the East Room of the White House Friday, July 24, 2009 in Washington

3) U.S. President Barack Obama (L) delivers remarks at the Department of Education beside Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in Washington, July 24, 2009.

4) President Barack Obama, left, looks on as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaks during a signing ceremony of a proclamation celebrating the 19th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in the East Room of the White House Friday, July 24, 2009 in Washington.

5) A disabled man takes photographs during an event where U.S. President Barack Obama signed a proclamation celebrating the 19th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in the East Room at the White House in Washington, July 24, 2009.

6) U.S. President Barack Obama is pictured after signing a proclamation celebrating the 19th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in Washington July 24, 2009.

7) President Barack Obama, right, with Gen. James T. Conway, Marine Corps Commandant, watch the evening parade at the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington Friday, July 24, 2009.

8) U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama arrive at the U.S. Marines Corps Evening Parade with Commandant of the Marine Corps General James T. Conway and his wife Annette at the Marine Barracks in Washington, July 24, 2009.

9) President Barack Obama walks back to the White House from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, Friday, July 24, 2009.

10) The rest of the family, just cuz it's TOO cute!

11) A baker's dozen. I couldn't resist. Daddy's definitely gonna have to buy a shotgun someday.

11. In contrast, Chesty shows Bush his tail...

The pup actually looks like he wants no part of 43, perhaps because Marines don't drink on duty! (He does look loaded.) Few more pics: http://www.daylife.com/search?q=Chesty

"Don't let.....him.....pick me up! He'll drop me on my head!!" In the pic with Obama it seems like they are saying to each other,"who's your buddy"!! I 'm beginning to think that Prez wanted Bo (the new puppy) more than the girls did!! lol can't fool me! P.S. kids and animals folks, kids and animals. They can't be fooled either.

you owe it to yourself to go if you get to D.C. It is one of the most beautiful, awe inspiring events you'll ever see.

30. That is the best photo of the girls that I can remember

They are growing up before our very eyes ~ so quickly.

Usually the little one is upset when Malia holds her father's hand.
She does not like that at all.

In this photo they are both content and are just adorable.

29. My brother and his family saw the Prez last night as he was
leaving the WH for that parade! My 11 year old niece called me last night and breathlessly said "I saw him, I saw him!". Then she described "the Beast" with the flags and Presidential seal, the motorcade with an ambulance, Secret Service SUVs and police cars and the helicopter overhead. It made quite an impression on her.

They were right in front of the crowd on the street and they could see the outlines of POTUS and FLOTUS as they waved to the people lined up to watch.

It was the last day of their week long vacation in DC and I'm so glad they got to see this. They were very disappointed that they couldn't get tickets for a White House tour, but this really thrilled them all!

7) A person holds a pamphlet of information on U.S. President Barack Obama's health care plan while waiting in line to enter the Remote Area Medical (RAM) health clinic at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Wise, Virginia July 24, 2009. The free clinic, which lasts 2 1/2 days, is the largest of its kind in the nation providing medical, dental and vision services from more than 1,400 medical volunteers. For many residents of this Appalachian area, the RAM clinic serves as the only medical care they may receive each year.

36. Thanks! Makes me think of my best friend, who was anti-ADA
As an engineer and a Republican, she HATED the idea of curb cuts, and how much they cost.

Until she had a baby, and realized they helped moms with stollers, too. I guess you have to have an ox being gored to finally get it.

As President Clinton said when he broke his leg (and I paraphrase) "I'll never be a woman or a minority, but we're all just one mis-step away from being handicapped"

37. I love the quote from the former president, and he's absolutely right.
These people hold a very special place in my heart because of my brother who was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 19, and passed away at the age of 32.
