NY Times Carries GOP Water ... Again
Posted by Oliver Willis on July 25, 2009 at 5:09 AM.

The NY Times has a thumbsucker today about alleged overexposure by President Obama in the media. Now, the idea that the President of the United States is someone who tends to make news is never a problem with the media unless its a Democrat but what is even worse is the way the Times frames this story.

But longtime Washington hands warn that saturation coverage can diminish the power of his voice and lose public attention.

Ah-ha! Who are these Washington hands? Political veterans with no political axes to grind, I bet!

“I’m really perplexed. It’s unbelievable,” said Karen Hughes, Mr. Bush’s White House counselor. “They’ve taken his greatest political asset — his gifts as a communicator — and totally diluted them. It’s been especially notable in the last couple weeks.”

Um, what? That’s Karen Hughes, one of the top puppeteers that told Bush what to say and when to say it during his disastrous presidency. Karen Hughes has a mighty unhealthy relationship with the George W. Bush legacy, and it was her who allegedly help ghostwrite Bush’s “autobiography” A Charge To Keep. Surely there’s someone other than a Bushie hack that is concerned over this so-called overexposure.

“It’s a risk of overexposure,” said Joe Trippi, a political consultant.

Ah, well then… But wait!

1. Obama seems to be "too [insert any word]" for the corporate media whores
Too bad for them most people simply.don't.care about a POTUS who is, in nearly every way, far superior than most of our last few Presidents. More signs that they are grasping at straws hopelessly trying to bring him down - and seeming to FAIL!

2. I actually agree with this? He is the first President I've seen

that is in front of the camera almost every day. You want to hear from him. But if he's out there everyday it does take away from the "everyone stop, the President has something to say" effect.

However, I think the main reason he does it is because no one else is worth a damn at selling his plans. Especially not members of Congress.

I'm one of Obama's biggest defenders. But damn the guy is out there too much. I mean jeesh in the Press Room yesterday? etc. They do need to cool it.

I like that he is as involved as much as he is in everything that is going on, particularly right now with health insurance reform. Given that not many people seem to have his back in Washington, IMHO he needs to put himself out there as much as possible to try to make sure that we don't lose out on getting something passed. It probably seems weird because I don't think we, as a people, have really expected too much of Presidents during recent years. Before Obama, Clinton was really the only President I can think of who was constantly upright, energetic, and trying to actively govern. I think it's also somewhat a matter of age. Before Clinton we had had a bunch of old men (or at least men whom weren't "spring chickens") for Presidents- Carter, Reagan, Bush II, so I think we got used to them not being as active and/or public as Clinton and Obama have been. Of course, I suppose if Obama cooled his jets a little bit, people here and elsewhere would probably (once again) complain that he isn't visible enough, isn't "leading", isn't being enough of a "fierce advocate", or whatever. *sigh* He REALLY can't please everybody I suppose. I'd be worried if he was bopping around in an unfocused, undisciplined, distracted ADHD-like flurry and not really accomplishing anything but everything Obama has been doing has been to further his agenda, policies, etc. and, of course, right now, he is grappling with Congress, the media, and the public over health insurance reform, which naturally requires him to be as visible and active as he possibly can be.
