PALIN WaPo/ABC Poll: Dumb is the New Honesty (July 25)
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 09:11 AM by denem
As Sarah Palin steps down as Alaska's Governor, her Poll numbers are tanking: 53% of electors have an unfavorable opinion of her (34% strongly unfavorable), 54% see her as a 'not strong' leader, and 57% think she does NOT understand complex issues. No surprises there.

But wait, there's more. DU'ers, I suspect, would have even an firmer view of her honesty and values. Well, here are the results:

It's about 50:50 on, she shares your values, she understands (read 'is like') people like you. And the show stopper? 52% - 40% say she's 'honest and trustworthy'.

My best take. The decades long barrage about 'educated elites' keeps smart politicians dumbing down and their messages, while staying vague on hot button issues. When a polly comes along who is genuinely dumb, and doesn't mind a bit of hate speech, well, screw the ethics, 'at least you can say she's honest'.

1. She most definitely does not understand anything complex....
She DID think Africa was a country, after all.

3. The truly sad aspect is that so many KNOW WHO SHE IS.
What damn right does she have to gain the audience of so many?

5. Dumb is just dumb
Being honest and dumb, even if the honest part were true, doesn't make one Presidential material. Sarah is still dumb.

6. Then why is she perceived as Honest and trustworthy by the majority
when there are MOUNTAINS of evidence to the contrary?.

9. Corporate news media - they constantly pushed the LIE that Bush was an honest straightshooter, too,
and yet he lied constantly....small lies and BIG LIES.

13. He was perceived to be smart by the same people who perceive Palin to be smart.
But, I can also remember quite a few MSM mouthpieces who would push the idea that Bush WAS much smarter than the way he spoke.

7. Palin is that odd cartoon walrus who loves to swim but hangs a hammock
on the patio anyway.

Sure, she's astonishlingly stupid, but it is a stupidity in the service of the modern-day Republican Party, which as far as stupidity is concerned, enjoys an embarrassment of riches. The GOP was pretty much already astonishingly stupid, and mean-spirited. With Palin, they get both stupid AND mean-spirited, well past recommended dosages of either.

The more publicity she receives, the less viable the GOP is as a national political entity.

IMO her stupidity, as acute as it certainly is, is not her most offensive feature. I think her snide amoralism is. As any wolf.

19. Truth be told I am missing Mr. Ferguson and those impossibly
soaring high-register sounds he could provoke from his instrument.

Also I miss the fine musicians he hung out with.

20. Alas, alas ... but lend an ear to Arturo Sandoval and John Faddis.
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 03:07 PM by eppur_se_muova
I recently got to hear Mr. Faddis live, and he autographed a CD for me ... sadly, I never got to meet Maynard, even though I did (finally!) make it to exactly one of his concerts.

21. Sandoval is a wonder.
I was lucky enough to hear Maynard at Radio City Music Hall back some many moons ago. He was still in his prime at the top of his register. I was surprised the roof held for that concert.

I'll try to check out Faddis.

Her RNC address tailored for her, here and there, was read with 'conviction'. I'm not laughing.

17. Honest and trustworthy?
This makes her Presidential? Look at all the other negatives. Obama understands the complex issues and moves on them. Palin just smiles and waves.

18. But why is she considered honest?
In my view it's because she's outspokenly dumb.
