Grassley says a 'public option would be unfair to insurers.' And, he said it with a straight face.

Republicans--in Congress to protect and promote the health care industry--not the public interest. And, they don't even bother to hide it. Perhaps that is because establishment toadie Andrea Mitchell said not a word to Grassley about his bald face statement.

It looks like we are fixing to get screwed by Congress when we have the majority in both houses and the presidency because none of them can put the public interest before the health care special interests who line their campaign coffers.

We need campaign finance reform. The House bill, H.R. 1826, the Fair Elections Now Act has 70 co-sponsors while the Senate bill. S.752, has a total of 4 co-sponsors. Pathetic!

Thomas links are temporary, but you can go to http://thomas.loc.gov and put into the search box the bill numbers for both the Senate and House bills to keep track of them.

2. "Let the marketplace
determine the course of business" shout the worshippers of unfettered Capitalism, unless the Marketplace (that's us) fight back. Then it's time to get Government involved, on their side.
Honestly, it makes me want to ask each elected official poing blank, in front of the whole world;
"Yes or no on a public option/single payer system? No ifs, ands or buts, not maybe's. we'll sees or it depends. Yes or No?"

15. Partial answer: In France, the government is afraid of
The people.

Here the people are afraid their Cable TV might be down on the final moments of "America's Got Talent."

8. So he admits For-Profit Insurers can not compete in the market place
and they need the gov't to protect them with regulation just for them to keep existing? Sounds a little Communist to me, Corpo-communist that is.

10. And that's why having to compete would be "unfair." Poor little things.
Let me whip this out :sarcasm: to forestall the inevitable irony-impaired poutrage.

9. Well, he's telling the truth. That's an entirely separate issue to
this question: "Is it a good idea anyway, even though insurers will most certainly take hits, some will shrink or go out of business, and some of their employees will endure deep salary cuts or have to find a new line of work?"

Wonder where he gets his campaign contributions?

13. Well, boo fucking hoo, Chuck.
Isn't it sad to think big insurance might have to gouge their customers a tad less to compete with a public option?

16. This embarrassment is up for re-election in 2010
Seems like these statements making him the defender of the gouging health insurers would make great campaign ads.

Ones that ought to start running NOW.

17. Has anyone asked Grassley what his job description is?
If it's to represent the insurance companies and work for what's in their best interests...well, then that's fine. But, I have a strong suspicion his constituents may have something to say about that.
