VA-Gov: McDonnell Soars in New SUSA Poll
SurveyUSA (7/27-28, likely voters, 6/5-7 in parens):

Creigh Deeds (D): 40 (43)
Bob McDonnell (R): 55 (47)

Jody Wagner (D): 42
Bill Bolling (R-inc): 54

Steve Shannon (D): 42
Ken Cuccinelli (R): 53
(MoE: ±4.3%)

Whoa, those are some pug-ugly numbers for Democrats. Sure, McDonnell has gained back a bit of ground in recent weeks after Deeds' primary bounce faded, but are things really this bad for Team Blue? (The second and third head-to-heads listed here are the Lt. Governor and Attorney General races, respectively.)

One note of caution is that SUSA's voter ID composition for this poll has gyrated fairly significantly in the Republican direction. Back in June, their general election poll was composed of a 36% Dem, 34% GOP sample. This time, the poll is 38% Republican, 32% Dem. That's an unusually favorable spread for the GOP; recent polls by R2K and PPP had 39D-32R and 34D-33R samples, respectively. Not coincidentally, those pollsters also showed a tighter gubernatorial race.

1. I think the chances are that dems may very well lose both VA and NJ governorships
this fall (NJ more so than VA), and that idiot RNC chairman Steele will take credit. But it really is due to local issues and the economy and incumbant governors everywhere are in trouble. Unfortunately Dems have more Governorships than the GOP.

3. He ran a pretty poor primary campaign...
That benefited from an implosion of a favored candidate. He was invisible there, too.

4. 2009
If Deeds loses we will have a bad night In November.Corzine Is going lose In NJ.And New York Is going to reelect Bloomberg Mayor.

Now let's remember Survey USA Is not always right. They had Mccain ahead In Minnesotta, and during the primarys in 2008 they had
Hilary ahead In both Missouri and Indiana by double digets, and Obama just abrely ahead In NC.Obama narrowly won Missouri primary,
Hillary barely win Indiana, and Obama won NC by a large margin.

Back In 2005 at this time Tim Kaine was behind.Deeds Is still In the race.Remember RAS who leads Republicans only had Mcdonnell
ahead by 4.Obama should worry more about Virginia than New Jersey.

If Deeds loses expect the MSM to have say Republicans are coming back and the public Is rejecting Obama.
