Now I've heard it ALL! - "The Govt. is going to put old people to death"!
http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/07/29/gop-scare-tactic/

exerpt--
REP. VIRGINIA FOXX (R-NC): Republicans have a better solution that won‘t put the government in charge of people‘s health care, that will make sure we bring down the cost of health care for all Americans, and that insures affordable access for all Americans, and is pro-life because it will not put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government.

REP. PAUL BROUN (R-G): A lot of people are going to die. This program of government option that‘s being touted as being this panacea, the savior of allowing people to have quality health care at an affordable price, is going to kill people.

RUSH LIMBAUGH, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: People at a certain age with certain diseases will be deemed not worth the investment, and they will just—as Obama said—they‘ll give them some pain pills and let them loop out until they die and they don‘t even know what‘s happened.

4. Republicans are already putting people to death
...and not just the old. They don't care. It's economic "collateral damage", the price of having a "free market."

7. Project much?
Expect to hear a LOT of this kind of talk in August as the GOP spends a million dollars in advertising to try and kill health care. You guys should all tune in to Randi Rhodes today, she's on this story big time. http://www.randirhodes.com/

9. I am currently debunking this crap.
Myth 29: Health Care reform will pressure the elderly to end their lives prematurely.
Or in another form: It will allow for legalized physician-assisted suicide.

REALITY: The section of the bill this myth is referring to is SEC. 1233. ADVANCE CARE PLANNING CONSULTATION: It amends the Medicare Act to allow coverage for patients to receive counseling about end-of-life care options every five years if they so choose. Moreover, prominent medical societies have supported such counseling.

Here is an analysis of this portion of the bill:
Provides coverage for consultation between enrollees and practitioners to discuss orders for life-sustaining treatment. Instructs CMS to modify 'Medicare & You' handbook to incorporate information on end-of-life planning resources and to incorporate measures on advance care planning into the physician's quality reporting initiative.

---------------------------------------------

While Foxx says this crazy ass crap, there ARE people out there believing this shit. All one has to do is go voer to freeperville, or even get a viral email from a winger friend. She clearly has not read that the bill increases funding for end of life caregiver-- like HOSPICE.

I am still working on recoding this site, and there are some design issues that we are working out, but here is the debunked myth: http://healthcarereformmyths.org/HealthcareReformMyths.php#A29

and here it the home page: http://healthcarereformmyths.org/

(more debunking to come in the next few days. )

19. Yet many can't possibly understand why reform is hard to pass.
Especially reform that would eliminate options for people to make other choices. This is exacerbated by the media walking lockstep with the opposition to highlight this crap and give it an air of legitimacy or at least a big platform and plenty of repetition.

I think that the Blue Dogs owe us this, at least: go and talk to their conservative constituents and convince them how stupid this is.
