1. Apparently they knew there was a problem and Crowley was appointed by a black

cop to do some special diversity stuff.

Crowley apparently sucked.

Man, you know there is a problem if the best they could find is him. On the other hand, maybe he was good at passing for a decent person. That happens, too.

5. Have you ever heard of Whitey Ford, Whitey Bulgar? Apparently it is

a common name in the Boston area. I would suggest it is a direct translation of such Irish names as Finnbar (white or fair head". )

14. if it turns out to be his name (or his nickname) would it change your view?

I've read that the cop has been known by the nickname "Whitey" most of his life because he was fair haired. Could be true, could be bullshit. Don't know. But I've seen some comments (not here) that even if its his nickname he should be disciplined for not changing it or, at least, for referencing it on his license tag. Personally, if its his lifelong nickname, then I say let it go. Its not as if the license tag is on his police cruiser.

Harvard student Seth Bannon spotted this cop pull up to a deli on Massachussetts Ave. in what appears to be his personal SUV with a hilarious license plate: WHY-TEE.

I was eating breakfast at the Gourmet Express Market and Deli (1868 Mass Ave, Cambridge), when around NOON the black SUV pictured backed into that space and parked illegally. The police officer pictured exited the SUV, walked into the Deli, ordered a sub, got back into the SUV, and drove off. I took the picture as the officer was getting back into the SUV.

I'm not nearly as disturbed by the (entirely unnecessary) illegal parking job as I am by the utter crudeness of the plates, especially in the aftermath of the Gates debacle.

I've attached two additional photos I snapped. In one you can see the officer holding the delicious sub he purchased.

Sorry I have no intention of paying to find out if this guy owns the vehicle or not. And I'm not saying it's racist. I don't have any idea what it's about to be honest.

a) ponder this in depth
b) avoid displaying it proudly
