crowley is bringing protection tomorrow
crowley is bringing his posse when he meets President Obama and Prof. Gates for beers at the White House on Thursday.

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20090729union_brass_lawyer_to_accompany_sgt_crowley_to_white_house/srvc=home&position=recent

I wonder what they think Obama and Gates will do to him? Or are they afraid that crowley will admit that he handle the situation wrong:freak:

34. Based on what?
I heard an interview with him where they tried to bait him into bashing Obama. He made it clear he helped work to get Obama elected, that he supports the majority of what Obama is doing, that he would vote for him again and he thinks Obama just made a mistake here.

I never really saw him "TALK MAJOR SHIT" about Obama.

12. Whatever the arrest facts, we now have GOP playing race card, divisive politics when we have
important policies to vote on, convincing country Obama is on their side and caring about their interests.

If Obama can talk to Iran, I think he can talk to the Cambridge police, where both Obama and cops get photo-op. Dems need to prevent as much racist GOP bull as possible and wedge between police.

14. what?
He need to pacify the cops for their stupids actions to keep the racists off his ass?

From my understanding, this was an opportunity for Gates and crowley to sit down face to face and candidly and cool headedly discuss what happened that day.If they can agree to disagree, that would be a good step.

Now that isn't going to happen with the blue wall of silence behind crowley.

18. Are you watching the race card with Obama & Sotomayor "are racists," while they say Obama can't be
trusted on economy or your health care. Lots of anxiety, just like the election.

We know what happened, but depending on media's take, our own lens, many do not see the overreach or know the CYA arrest report.

At this point, we have to shut down the wackos. I wish we could have real teachable moments, publically, but I think it's a little at a time, in our own time. We'll never get the satisfaction of the actual events coming out.

I hope they all talk and have something substantive, behind closed doors, but if it's a photo-op, I think we need that, too. For health care and climate change and muzzling the GOP.

15. Ohhhh....
Your title made me think he was bringing a condom... :+

The linked article, on the other hand, suggests that Crowley really is afraid of educated black men. Maybe it wasn't a charge of racism that he found threatening enough to justify an arrest after all... maybe it was just a big word that he didn't understand, so he's bringing a lawyer and a union rep, hoping that, between the two of them, they'll be able to explain any of the big words that Obama or Gates might choose to use in his presence...

if he told the truth, there goes their faux news, cnn and scarebo's appearances.

crowley is going to become the mark furman of the 21st century, watch. Anytime there is a crime or police news he is going to be on faux to give his professional opinion!!!!

21. I was thinking on the "truths" of this whole scenario the other day.
It occurred to me that the police union and city of Cambridge wouldn't let Crowley apologize even if he were inclined to judge his actions as having been poorly conceived (stupid). Of course, my personal experience is that in 37 out of 38 cases no police officer will ever even take a moment to re-consider a perception/judgement/action... period. However, to the extent that any acknowledgement of stupidity of action, let alone apology, would open Crowley, the Cambridge police, and the City of Cambridge itself to the potential of lawsuits... it simply can't be allowed.

Unfortunately for Crowley, until he chooses to/is allowed to acknowledge that he overreacted (at the very absolute least)... it will be nearly impossible for any who might be willing to give him the benefit of the sliver of our doubt to do so.

(Sure... the above all assumes that Crowley's racist "seeming" behavior was perhaps the result of a bad tempered reaction to not being "respected" and a stupid overreaction, rather than what it looks like.)

I can't help but think that, to the extent that Crowley might actually be willing to acknowledge that he'd gone too far, these other two accompanying him might be most interested in making sure that no truth that they don't approve of (union approved, legal jeopardy considerations approved) to be expressed.

Maybe they should all three (5, 7 whatever the party turns into) be required to drink a 6 pack (or a bottle of wine) each... well, who am I kidding?... the cops should actually be required to drink at least 3-5 times as much as the academics. I mean, it's not like their fellow cops will give them DUIs... right?

It will be interesting to watch and see if he turns into "Joe the Cop" though...

This helps huge lift for policy challenges, where Obama as racist is being played to divide. Someone who can't be trusted to govern with people's interests.

35. Nice ethnic stereotype. Always wonder why stuff like this is accepted when if one did the same
to another ethnic minority it would get deleted (and rightly so) or maybe even the poster would get a pizza.

But it seems to be a readily accepted ethnic smear that everyone openly and shamelessly chuckles about......

38. I think it's because it's seen as archaic
I don't think they're really a minority anymore. I put the winky smilie to show I meant it affectionately. I'm half Irish by the way, with an extremely Irish last name but I don't identify in any way whatsoever as a minority. The other half is Hispanic and I feel very different about that.
