No Beer for her? Lucia Whalen and her attorney in New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/07/29/us/AP-US-Harvard-Scholar-Caller.html?_r=1

"Whalen's attorney, Wendy Murphy, said Gates, Crowley and Obama overreacted, while Whalen kept her cool.

''The three highly trained guys who reacted badly are getting together for a beer,'' Murphy said. ''The one person whose actions have been exemplary will be at work tomorrow in Cambridge. I don't know -- maybe it's a guy thing. She doesn't like beer anyway.''

Murphy had said Monday her client is ''by no means the entitled white neighbor,'' which was ''the theme in the blogs and the implication in some of the mainstream news media.''

Whalen said she has worked in Cambridge for 15 years and hopes that the community's reputation would be restored. She also said she respected Gates and the Cambridge police department and hoped her decision to finally speak out would not add to the controversy.

''I was called racist and I was a target of scorn and ridicule because of the things I never said,'' she said. ''The criticism hurt me as a person, but it also hurt the community of Cambridge.''

Despite the trouble it caused her, Whalen said she would make the call again."

1. She also wasn't sure that the people didn't belong there, had suitcases, making the case worse for
Crowley, but not being repeated.

2. So odd
What is it she actually wants? A meeting with the president? Vindication (she has that it appears)? Money?

5. Lawyer is on TV about aggrieved women a lot. Whalen was definitely upset by hate calls to her and
her mother, being blamed for starting whole thing, which was a very non-judgmental call to police. You had to see the press conference; she was very emotional and wants it over with.

9. Maybe to be left alone? None of us have any idea what she's been through.
And the way the article is written, the lawyer could have been responding to a question rather than making an independant statement about the beer-drinking at the White House, such as, "Why wasn't Mrs. Whalen included in the beer summit at the White House."

I think it's fairly obvious that this poor woman is not looking for money or fame, just some peace and quiet.

And I don't know why she would be looking for "vindication" as she did absolutely nothing wrong.

6. I was on her side until her lawyer acted like an idiot.
Besides, who wants to be with men when they drink beer? Nothing worse...

7. With all due respect, what do the lawyer's actions have to do with anything?
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 11:53 PM by wpelb
The mouthpiece probably should have kept her yap shut, but that doesn't mean the client was wrong. I doubt that a person in a stressful situation is going to carefully shop for a lawyer; she's simply going to get the first one she can find, or that has been recommended by friends, etc.

As for being with a group of men having a beer, well, I have better things to do with my time.

11. Correction: First lawyer that can find her.
Murphy is a media ambulance chaser that probably reached out to Whalen - pro bono.

Chances are, Whalen doesn't even know what a tool wendy Murphy is.

15. First she was upset about all the unwanted attention,
and she's not getting enough attention? This isn't about you, sweetheart. I realize you got some nasty messages from nasty people, but that is always the case when you in the media spotlight. It's still NOT. ABOUT. YOU. You seem like a vice nice woman so don't blow it by whining and begging for attention like you're Octomom. You gave a very nice press conference and the 911 call straightened everyone out on what you did not say, so exit gracefully and go back to your private life.

I'm sure her media wh*ore of a lawyer is to blame for this.
