What Obama needs is political shot in the arm. What did Bush do when his poll
numbers were in trouble? Seems he got to around 90% approval in early fall of his first year?

1. He raised the terror alert level
He/they played that fear card to the end.

10. But pretty much only up to the 2004 election
Those terror warnings became mysteriously less frequent (if they didn't stop altogether after the election). Coincidence? I think not.

11. That's the first thing that came to mind.
They never hesitated to remind folks that the boogey man was out there. He could be one of your co workers. He might even live next door!

4. let 3,000 people get killed while he went on vacation?
Odd how that helped him.
But then I'm starting to believe that we are dumber than we think.

6. I know, let's get this President a Bullhorn!
Or do you think it was the mayhem, the fear, the dead bodies, the crash of the stock market, and the total destruction of two mighty buildings and 3 large planes that drove Bush's approval up?

9. he was undoubtedly literally treading on the dead as he uttered his macho words
it really did seem as though it couldn't have worked out better for them. 1)Throw away all fiscal sanity, 2)Engage in bloodlust across the world with no politically negative consequence, 3)shut down dissent at home, 4)turn all of the normally combative media into lapdogs.

sick sick sick.

8. Launch an unprovoked invasion of a country that can't fight back?
That worked for Bush when the post-9/11 "glaze" started fading off the horror of 9/11 and his *triumph* over the Taliban in Afghanistan.

But seriously, for Obama, I don't know what it might be but I hope he doesn't think he needs to find a way to make more Republicans to like him (not that he could ever do enough short of becoming a Republican himself). If DU is any indication, he apparently has a LOT of work to do with the left. Right now, his approval, if you believe the polls, is pretty much back to where he was at the time of the election- if not somewhat higher. When he starts tanking lower and hitting Bush/Cheney 2009 territory, then I'll get more worried. However, I seriously cannot imagine what he might have to do to sink THAT low! If he gets a modestly successful health care/insurance reform plan through Congress and it really starts helping people, including the wingnuts, his approval ratings will probably rise and if the economy starts churning out some good jobs, that will help as well.

It's kind of sad how some people are being duped into believing that Obama now *owns* all of the messes that Buscho created and that Obama should have been able to fix everything in the 6+ months he has been POTUS.

12. Bush didn't have time to read poll numbers
as he was too busy, starting wars, destroying the constitution and cutting brush. If he had taken polls seriously he would have committed suicide in the waning years of his presidency.

13. if an attack were to happen under obama- the right would be screaming for impeachment....
otherwise they'd try to use the fundy air force to stage a coup.

14. I agree. nothing else would matter.
they'd just say "See? Elect a Democrat and get attacked."

But I don't see that happening because for all the crap flying around, we are definitely a nation more on the lookout for that kind of stuff.

What Israel, England, France and others had to contend with and learn to overcome years earlier, the US finally had to put into practice after 9/11.
