You wanted OBama to spend his Political Capital, no? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-30-09 05:04 PM by FrenchieCat
Well that's what he's doing.
That's why the critics are coming out of every single crook and crany there is.
Anyone who thought that spending political capital meant that you could push through a big stimulus, and a big 2010 budget, within 6 months of getting into office, and then push health care reform and end up with everything that you demanded, and do so without suffering in the polls, or without the fearmongering machine hitting back, while the media whores on bended knees sway the 10%-15% that they can via repeating the GOP talking points day in day out, than perhaps you didn't understand what Spending of political capital meant.
So Yeah.....This is what it looks like.
Will he get what he wants? Most likely. Will he suffer for it and by extension a whole of other issues on the agenda? Doh...ye-Ah! Will the nervous nellies screaming with their hands up in the air running from here to there help one way or the other? I think they just make us have that much less political capital, because what is required is resolve and action to have the President's back on this particular issue; passing decent health care reform.

18. It's because the Republicans are in char........ oh, .wait a minute....... |
|
:eyes:
Wasn't there a famous suggestion by some bigwig in the corporate media about the Republicans being in charge and that's why they kept sticking the mics in front of Republicans all of the time and seemed to basically ignore Democrats, particularly during the past 8 years? Of course, now that the Democrats are in charge of WH and Congress, nothing seems to have changed, unfortunately, and it's nearly wall-to-wall Republicans, conservatives, and right-wingers who seem to get a majority of print and airtime with nary a Democratic or Democratic-friendly voice to be found on corporate media stations outside of Rachel, Keith, and Ed. However the media is biased, it sure as hell ain't biased IN THE LEAST against Republicans or towards Democrats. It is almost as if the mere thought of being accused (for any reason) of having a "liberal" bias seems to be enough to send the testicles of the corporate media owners DEEP into their abdominal cavities (making a slurping sound as they vanish). :puke:

4. I think if you are coupling your nervousness with positive constructive action, |
|
then that is the most anyone could ask.
However, if you were just moaning and groaning and not doing shit but posting negative articles that mirror your nervousness, than in essence, that would mean that you would be helping defeat health care reform, even if you were for it.

13. I'd feel more comfortable covering his back . . . |
|
if I knew where Obama is standing. Is he for a strong, quality, affordable public option for those falling through the cracks? Will he go for the "co-operatives"? Will he set a "trigger" date far in the future before any public option goes into effect?
Right now, he is into "bi-partisan"/compromise mode and seems willing to appease the blue dogs in order to declare a hollow victory. It's confusing. I want him to succeed because I believe his second term depends on it, but I need to know which version of healthcare he supports and where he intends to draw the line on giving in to the corporate whores.
I don't want his political capital so much as I need a clearer idea of what kind of bill he will sign and what kind of bill is "off the table." There is a great deal of pain and trauma out here and half-measures will not even touch it.

While I am a huge proponent of Single Payer... if we have to settle for a public option, it will only be meaningful if everyone can buy into it (no waiting years or trigger or exclusions if you have insurance through your employer) and every doctor and hospital must accept it. There can be no mandatory insurance with subsidies (tax dollars) being given to for-profit insurance companies either. If Obama stands strong on these points then he'll have no bigger supporter than me.

22. I heard a similar argument made on NPR today (forgot the guy's name). Slippage... |
|
in the polls proves that the president is willing to spend his capital on healthcare reform. The guy made the point that this is president has been put into impossible position. He's being attacked by the very people who helped bring about the current state of things, while simultaneously being attacked on the left flank by the purists who think he isn't progressive enough.
The media can't be bothered to dig into the meat and bones of the various health proposals, they're only concerned with how it plays out in the polls. I only watch Countdown anymore, and I may have to give that up as well, because the lead story tonight was The Beer Summit? The president also met with Philippine President Arroyo today as well, but The Beer Summit is the top story of the day? Please......

25. What capital is he spending by caving in? |
|
Because that's all I see him doing. He can do a town hall in every town in the country but when push comes to shove, he will sign whatever compromised, unethical, stinking piece of garbage bill congress places in front of him, just so he can say he signed somthing created through "bipartisanship."
So no, I don't have Obama's back because I don't believe he has mine.
I think the very concept of having a president's back is bizarre as shit anyway. He works for US, not the other way around.
