It will be soon be time to circle the wagons again |
|
We are getting set up for 2010. A GOP controlled congress is even a worse idea than the 10-12 DLC congress critters we currently have to deal with in the Senate and the Blue Dogs in the house.
It will soon be time for us to form ranks and get ready to fight the outside enemy. The GOP.
After the Healthcare debate is over it is all about winning our Federal and State elections.

2. Absolutely! The only president who can get ANYTHING done without Congress behind him |
|
is a dictator, like cheney puppet bush.
I will work my butt off for a DEM running against Montana's sole Congressman. Since I only have three elected voices in D.C. and one of them is owned by Big Insurance, electing a DEM to take over Rehberg's seat is damned important to me.
Part of the job of governance is citizen participation in getting good people elected to represent US. I'm with ya on this. Uf we want the government We The People deserve, we have to get our part of the work done.

3. The Republican Party's approval ratings remain in the toilet. |
|
I am not particularly worried about 2010. The Republican base is still insane, and its leaders still reflect that. I don't see that changing in the next 17 months. If we pass a bad health insurance reform bill, then there could be repercussions for the Democratic Party. If we do nothing, however, we can simply blame the Republicans for obstruction and increase our margins in both the House and the Senate. I am expecting us to pick up 3 in the Senate and between 3 to 6 seats in the House. Only the passage of some very bad legislation will prevent that, imho.

But this is a very different time. The Republican Party's approval ratings were not in the toilet then. We weren't going through the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. A lot more people were happy with their insurance then. The religious right had not completely taken over the Republican Party then. The memory of Ronald Reagan was much more fresh then; now the "Reagan is the second coming" crowd has little voice. Clinton was elected with less than 50% of the national vote total. Obama was elected with well over 50% of the national vote total.
This is just a very different time. I do not fear a repeat of 1994 ... unless the Democratic Party manages to pass a very bad "health insurance reform" bill. Then, we should be worried.

5. with the ramping up of the RW noise machine |
|
and the $$ to spend on ads that the corporatists have, I think a bit of worry is called for. If we let up, they go for the weakest in the herd and pick us off, one by one.
Find, and fund, good DEM candidates. Do not take a majority for granted. EVER. Like the poster said: 1994 Keep that in mind.

7. I agree that the RW has consolidated its control over media. |
|
That's tragic, but I am still not too worried. Omama managed to get elected with a significant majority of votes despite the RW media.
