I just got an excellent robo call for health care reform!
It said we need a public option and my congressman Jim Matheson (bluest of the dogs) was blocking it in a key committee. I knew that and intended to call but sometimes I procrastinate. So, at the end of the robo call it said: "Press one to be connected to Congressman Matheson's office right now." I did, and one ring later his office answered. I was polite but I gave them an earful.

I only wish I had been a tad better prepared. I'd not thought through what I was going to say so I stammered a bit (probably not too bad but still).

So, my advice, if this is national, THINK about what you want to say so if/when you get the call, you'll be prepared. I know I'll just be a tick (so many calls for, so many against) but I gave my name, let him know I was a constituent, and said he could call me if he wanted to talk (he won't). I also said I've disagreed with him in the past but I am so angry about his position on health care that this may be the one thing that causes me to not vote for him next time.

Pretty effective robo call, I'd say. Maybe this is common as I rarely listen to robo calls, maybe they all allow you to connect at the end. For the right issue, it works. (I'm afraid the other side is/will run one that says: "Congress wants to pass health care that will call for killing all Americans at age 60. Press one to tell you congressman to vote against it.")

1. So we've had targeted tv-ads in Blue Dog Senators' states...
and now robo-calls in the Rep's districts.

Not bad... comparatively speaking.

3. what a great idea!
The only improvement I'd suggest is that they give you a one-sentence message to pass along--I'd be tongue-tied too.

"Check Mate: Progressive Change Campaign Committee's Response to Nelson Statement
Progressive Change Campaign Committee's Response to Nelson Statement"

Sorry for the late-day email, but Ben Nelson just reacted to the new PCCC/DFA TV ad <http://www.healthcarecantwait.com/ > targeting him in Nebraska.

In his response, he called a Nebraska small businessman's heartfelt health care story an "outside special interest group" who should stop "telling what to think" and he threatened that if the grassroots keep pressuring him like this, "health care reform may be dead by the end of August." Seriously?

Response, Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee

"Ben Nelson just called a Nebraska small businessman whose health insurance costs went up 42% an out-of-state special interest, while never disputing that he is bought and paid for by health and insurance interests who gave him millions to vote against his own constituents. If Ben Nelson stands behind his spokesman's words, he just proved himself a fundamentally corrupt and out-of-touch politician who feels perfectly comfortable lying to his constituents and going to bat for private insurers who fear competition and want to rip off the people of Nebraska."

"We will be increasing our Nebraska ad buy on Monday morning."

Sidenote: 83% of Nelson's health and insurance industry contributions are from out of state.
