When Malia got off Marine I from Martha's, she looked almost as tall as her mother. And as a 6'1" woman, I say Yay to tall girls! Like Michelle, my mom was tall and I grew taller. I bet Malia is gonna be about 6'3" by the time she's done growing!

24. Malia hit the pt when girls around that age have their huge growth spurt. I recognize it because

my 11 year old daughter did too. She flew past her 5'2 Nana but hasn't passed Mom yet (5'6). She hit it before most of the girls in her class did. It is very clear who has and who hasn't hit it yet.

46. Sorry, I'm being flip and glib...I used to hear all the time that tall women were role models

and we had to conduct ourselves in a certain manner because everyone's eyes were on us. I think I rebelled because I tried to hide in the background. I might have been a leader, except that I was totally self-conscious about my height.

That was then, though. I don't mind it at all in middle age. Just happy the Obama girls are gonna join me in my verticality!

Our house has a vibrant family in residence again. It's a very good thing. The old house needs kids to remind us all of what is really important.

Sasha is the cutest little sweet pea. I love how she goes from seriously studying her surroundings to exuberant, playful kid-ness -- in about 10 seconds flat.
