Their Sneaky Bastard Plan Worked to a Tee !
Step 1: Eliminate all oversight and regulation

Step 2: Green Light

Step 3: Rape and pillage

Step 4: Skyrocket corporate and wealthy individual earnings

Step 5: Slash common man wages

Step 6: Slash common man benefits

Step 7: Rape and pillage some more.

Step 8: Don't give a shit that the Dems win in '08 - They'll be left with nada. Hell, put imbecile Palin on the ticket. Doesn't matter.

Step 9: Realize the crash is inevitable - plan for it to happen after Jan 09.

Step 10: Oops

Step 11: No problem, declare a national economic emergency before J 09. Check

Step 12: Get Paulson to beg for billions. Check

Step 13: Let the poor Dem schmuck inherit the mess.

Step 14: Realize Dems will want health care for all.

Step 15: Bankrupt the government.

Step 16: No healthcare for all.

Brilliant. Diabolical, but brilliant.

5. Really? Interesting. I wonder - how many independent minds were
present when they gave O the doomsday outlook back in Dec/Jan. Guess it actually could have been true - that
we were on the verge of collapse. Doesn't really matter - as long as O bought into it and agreed to the billions
in bail out. It was all about covering up their excesses and the most important thing of all -- stopping universal
health care. With the healthcare industry money behind them and their skill at capitalizing on the stupidity and
selfishness of half the public...they knew they'd win.

Still think O and the Dems should have incrementalized. Break the healthcare initiatives into small bits and ram them
through, piece by piece, before the general public knew about it. Announcing "healthcare overall", giving the opposition time
to group and for that public opinion to reach critical mass was the beginning of the end. Yikes, you'd think someone would have remembered that history repeats itself (Hillary's try at it).

And this admin has made some money, but don't tell anyone!

8. No, no crystal ball...just the sickening intuition that
there has to be this incredible, powerful, manipulative force out there that swung American opinion from pro-universal health care
during the election to what it is today. And it's growing against us, everyday. And Rasmussen (I know, right wing cranks) are showing Obama 1t 46% approval.

I just wish our side could have anticipated this more and strategized on what would be the most savvy and optimum way to get this done.

If I am wrong, that it doesn't die, I will be the happiest person alive.

10. "that swung American opinion from pro-universal health care during the election to what it is today"
That's the media's version, not reality (and check the comments for the link to Republicans for a public option video).

11. hmmm sounds like Ariana's on a similar page..

BIO
Arianna Huffington: Has Obama's Handling of the Bank Bailout Undermined Health Care Reform?
One of the consequences of the one-sided bailout of Wall Street is the way it has undermined public trust in government. Much of the health care anger is a proxy for bailout anger -- especially as the president's economic team continues to offer confounding takes, such as Tim Geithner's recent hosannas on the amount of choice our financial system provides consumers, even as the few remaining mega-banks continue to gobble up the market. Is it me, or is Geithner starting to sound more and more like "Baghdad Bob," the absurdist Iraqi Information Minister who predicted that U.S. forces were going to surrender even as American tanks were rolling down the street outside his press conference? If we don't learn from the botched bank bailout, we are in danger of getting the same patchwork, reform-in-name-only outcome on health care.

7. Keny Lay is dead, Abramoff is in jail
Duke Cunningham is in jail. There is a long list of assholes who have gotten served. History isn't written on the torture investigations yet. Cheney is running around trying to cover his own ass with lies.

I would stop giving Repubicans credit for brilliance when they're really just evil.

Also, health care reform is going to pass.

Republicans = Evil and stupid.

Repeat!

18. It's pathetic that they were so crooked, that such a plan is within the realm of possibility.
Just possible. If they were able to think that far ahead. I thought years ago, when they were increasing the deficit to historical proportions ("deficits don't matter"), that they were going to leave that mess to the Dems to raise taxes to pay it off. Then they could say, "See? Dems raise taxes! That's what they always do!" I figured they figured that the Dems would win the Presidency after Repubs being in for 8 years. That doesn't mean they didn't try to win. But they knew it probably wouldn't happen.

They were just crooked enuf to plan a good deal of this crap.

But if the Dems stick together (and others who want a public option), they can make this thing work. The Dems will find themselves reborn and in power for years to come...and America is the winner. We would all be the winners.
