Good townhall comeback
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 11:01 AM by DrToast
I found this on reddit. I don't know if it's true, but it's pretty damn funny:

So today I went to a town hall meeting hosted by republican representative Peter Hoekstra, I got to ask him a direct question afterwards, it went like this:

me: "Insurance companies' bottom lines are their profits, the government's bottom line is serving the people, so why should I trust insurance bureaucrats over government ones?"

Congressman Pete Hoekstra: "Here, name me ONE government organization that functions."

me: "Well sir, you work for the house of representatives, a government organization, are you implying that you don't function properly?"

... I think he wanted to hit me.

"war in Iraq." After all, they claimed that there was no additional terror attacks on US soil thanks to whatever measures they thought they were using.

We could keep going, and create a very nice list to send to Hoekstra.

8. Another question I have for him: is he willing to forgo his own public option plan?
As a federal government employee, he received health care coverage that is paid for by taxpayer dollars. He should give up his own public option plan and return that money to the people, since he thinks the public option is so horrible.

GIVE THAT MONEY BACK, SIR! You and your Repuke friends!!!!!!

That is one of the dumbest thing I've heard in this season of supremely dumb statements. Peter Hoekstra is too stupid to be allowed out of his house, let alone into the House.

Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 10:17 AM by YOY
They'll find any mistake whatsoever that an agency/department has done and claim that it is the ultimate in Government inefficiency.

I work with one of those FReeps who claims that we (where I work...psuedogovernmental) are a failure. It ain't broken I'll tell you...but it could use some more budget (non-stimulus) money to fix it.

He cites lack of profit as the reason. Lack of profit in the field in a non-modernized system is the standard GLOBALLY. Once the system is fully modernized does it start turning an annual profit. The initial investment is not paid off...but the annual income is greater than the payments.

28. My reply would have been slightly different
I would have responded, "Would you care to ask that question of the hundreds of firefighters fighting to save peoples' homes in California as we speak Congressman? How about asking the thousands of police officers walking a beat protecting the citizens of their cities today? No? Well, then how about asking the thousands of men and women defending us in Iraq and Afghanistan currently? You think these brave individuals aren't doing their jobs? Because every single one of them works for a government organization."

Hoekstra's a douche bag regardless though.

39. Never understood that
Elected government reps seem to be standing up one after another saying that the government is too incompetent to run healthcare. Why are they still in their positions? They -are- the government they so eagerly criticize, why don't they resign?

If your manager at work stood up during the Christmas party and proudly announced that his department could fuck up a cup of coffee and can in no way be trusted with anything important, he'd be gone by New Years. Gone! Sure hope that the voters catch on by next election.

40. It ought to be a litmus test:
ANYONE who chooses to run for office,
especially Congress or the Presidency,
should be required to answer the simple question,
"Do you believe the United States government capable
of solving problems and serving its citizens?"

If the answer is "No," that person does not get on the ballot.
If "Yes," throw it back at 'em every single time they say otherwise.

People who do not believe in government do not belong in goverment.
How could we expect anyone who doesn't believe it can work
to even try to make it work?

Reagan famously said, in his first inaugural address,
"Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem."
In other words, he warned us, at the very beginning of his presidency,
that he was part of the problem.

And people still wonder how things got so screwed up...

64. I don't understand
Why this isn't a repeated talking point by the Dems. They should hit the GOP on this every time they bring up how bad gov't is. Being a gov't worker myself I can tell you why the gov't runs ineffeciently, its becuase the GOP has mostly run gov't for the last 30 years and they have shortcutted it at every turn. The job I do, my private counterparts wouldn't have half the caseload myself and my co-workers get. How the hell can you be efficient, when you have so much work that it would take 2-3 people to do it even somewhat efficiently? Its so damn disengenious to just say "Gov't doesn't work," without asking the question, Why doesn't it work?

56. I think one of the biggest reasons they think everything is failing is
because it does not totally eliminate the problem. That is what they have against any people program. Unfortunately they are the idealists here. We as democrats understand that many problems will never go away and that the best we can do is help the individual faced with the problem when we can.

When newt forced Clinton to "reform" welfare they added the 6 year rule (It would have been a 2 year rule if newt had had his way). They were totally idealistic in this forgetting that there have to be jobs for all those people and that there are actually some people that for one reason or another will never be able to hold a job. If we look around in our communities we know they are there and we would not just let them starve but pugs did not care. They wanted to see welfare eliminated in 6 years. Thank God the states started looking for ways to by-pass the 6 year law. I was one of the people the states helped. I had to stay home and care for my severely disabled daughter. If newty had his way she would have been institutionalized at a much higher cost and I would have gone on to take care of other peoples children.

Wake up you damn pugs. "The poor will always be with us" is a quote from your Bible. Mine to but I believe it.
