White House Giving Up On The Public Option.......
just breaking now on CNN. Looks like the insurance companies and the Repugs are going to win. It doesn't look like the President is going to pull this out for us and get us a 'strong public option'.

I'm very disappointed. Now I need time to think this over and decide how I'll handle this. They're letting us down after we gave them the White House the Senate and the House.

1. I don't believe it. Pres Obama told us he would spend his political capital on THIS.

I think we will still get a strong public option available to ANYONE.

11. The Word From CNN Is That He Is Talking With Susan Collins .....
and that it will be more 'insurance reform' than 'health reform' and that there is talk of a 'trigger' - if the insurance companies don't perform well. This is not the official WH version - this is what CNN is reporting.

If so - I'm very disappointed. I was really counting on a 'strong public option' - as I don't know how long I'll be able to maintain my payments to BC/BS for my health insurance.

If this happens - they are simply pounding in the nails into the caskets of many Americans. I hope it ain't so. But my 'hope' is fading.

the 'trigger' would not go into effect until 'years down the road' We are screwed either way.

16. Look - I'm On Your Side - I Called The White House Again Today And.....
professed my support for a 'strong public option'. The President needs to know that he has our support for the 'stong public option' so that he doesn't wimp out on this. It just appears that he is ready to cut a deal. Most unfortunate.

If we don't want him to give in we have to burn the phone lines at the White House. The number is 1-202-456-1111.

I called. Did you?

9. I'll take a wait and see attitude. He supposedly is giving a big speech next week
But one thing is for sure the WH has done a lousy job being consistent and on message with health care. I just hope they don't take the easy way out and support reform without the public option.

10. CNN said the WH is talking to Olympia Snowe and are focusing on
the trigger option but not giving up public option completely. There are two ways to think about this...Obama needs the votes, we are not even at 50 votes yet. He needs to pry a few conservative dems or a liberal Repub (of which there are only two, the women from Maine).
Or, he could give up, table it and start over....whenever that may be.
I will wait to judge when I see what he says in his speech. I really don't want to see the public option dropped...I wonder who we could persuade.

17. I'd rather it go up for a vote and fail...
Than force people to buy private insurance without the public option available.

Put it up for a vote and let history judge those who voted against.

Every day the White House could put out a press release of how many people lost their insurance that day.

34. I am also diabetic, but my blood sugar isn't so high as to
believe that "no more dropping of people with pre-existing conditions" is going to help us or anyone else. Yes, they will cover you, but what will that coverage entail?

- primarily nutritional counseling
- maybe an increase in rates as a penalty if you don't follow their prescribed nutritional plan at all times without fail, or participate in mandatory monitered exercise plan?
-how about treatment by phone nurse (this has actually been tried on me already)
-so far nothing says they cant charge you more, just that they would have to cover you

Meanwhile what might they get in return?

- 45 million more customers
- getting rid of the current situation where they can't sell insurance to out-of-state customers. This is the first step in de-regulating the health insurance industry that they are already working on. Means they can all move to whatever state will give them the least amount of regulation and give us the least amount of consumer protection.
-more tort reform. Ridiculous as this sounds, they are already parading it around as of the last few days. Really just another form of deregulation as there will be little consequence for their predatory behavior. Jury awards will be so limited, attorneys wont want to bother taking your case.

Be careful here.

43. Limited coverage vs no coverage at all is what it comes down too
I am not naive...but I want some talk of covering pre-existing conditions.
I am on insulin anyway, no nutritional plan worked for me. Cigna also has called me and sent me info. I am actually lucky to be covered at all. I do worry all the time about my husband losing his job. I would be screwed. My parents would help me but they would need to help me pay for insulin, test strips, needles, etc. The test strips are the worst...$100 for two boxes without insurance (I paid for them once out of pocket when my husband was in between jobs).

The trigger option is much gentler for those squeamish about the PO....
and we must remember that there are three other bills out of committee,
each which includes the PO.

These days, governing has got to be very difficult when folks want to see all of one's poker cards,
as they are gotten, and won't allow any element of strategy to go unanswered. If this administration pulls this off considering the many nellies on every corner where the eye can see with signs, and yelling and shit, along with a media made to pounce on every frigging thing said and unsaid, and folks judging you on your entirety very minute of every waking day, then I'll be quite satisfied that Obama will go down as one of the best President in history.

CNN obviously hasn't clued them in on the plan yet.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/health-care-action-center

* Reduce costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals, and families, and they must be brought under control
* Guarantee choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
* Ensure quality care for all — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care

but if they do fuck us on this...I'm done with the party. No more 'lesser of two evils' bullshit. There are more than enough Libs/progressives/lefties etc. to form a real third party.

Bottom line:

If we can't get progressive legislation passed after the ass-whooping we dished out last election, then this party is of no use to us. It is not a real alternative; but rather a watered down version of what we all fought so hard against.
