CNN poll: 55 percent support a public option
From CNN...

Now:

The poll suggests that Americans are split over what they've heard about President Barack Obama's proposals to reform health care, with 48 percent in favor of his plans and 51 percent opposed.

Then:

"That's essentially where the public was in early summer. Our June poll showed 51 percent supporting the Obama plan at that time, but with the sampling error, it's unclear whether there has been much change on this issue," adds Holland.

Interesting:

Did those protests affect views on the issue? Six in 10 say no, says Holland, who notes that support for Obama's plan has dropped among Republicans and independents — but has grown among Democrats.

Key:

On one of the most contentious points — a health insurance plan administered by the federal government that would compete with private health insurers — 55 percent say they support it when it is described as an option that the government would offer to the public. Most believe that Obama would eventually like to see the government run the health care system in this country.

Six in 10 people questioned say they understand most of the major points in Obama's reform proposals, with four in 10 saying they are confused.

8. I found out last night that a friend of mine is a "deather"....
... and it BLEW my mind ... I knew she was a right leaning Liberatarian type .... and if someone doesn't believe in "big government" I can respect that rationale even if disagree .... but to ACTUALLY believe that the President/Democrats/Whomever want to set up death panels ... when there is NO basis for this at all ........ it boggles the mind.

And she's an otherwise intelligent person. I dont get it. I just dont get it.

3. Again, the public option is the most popular part of reform
And somehow people are blaming it for overall health care reforms lack of popularity.

6. The figure would be higher than 55% if there hadn't been so
many lies spread among the more dense citizens.

13. American's overwhelmingly support a public option.
The high numbers, as much as 82%, indicate that a lot of Republican and independent voters are among its supporters.

7. The real question is, how can these conservadems block it?
Of course, its not about what the public wants...its about what the insurance industry gives these so called Dems. Obama would not be looking around for votes if they had committed right away.

11. The New York Times has a very interesting article on this subject.
If Obama lets his supporters down on this issue, he will definitely be a one-term president. Most of the American people want real change.
