A Letter to the President

Maybe a good idea for all of us to send our sentiments along before the President addresses congress.


Dear Mr. President,

Needless to say, August has not been a very good month for your administration, health care reform or the voices of reason. We've been inundated with gun toting nuts, screaming, hysterical, over emotional crazies and the Republican party showing their true colors with their extremism and outright fear mongering lies. I believe any vestige of hope of working with these people has passed by, if it wasn't a mirage to begin with.

Now, sir it is time to; as Harry Truman used to say, "Give them hell!".

I see you have scheduled a major speech to the Congress on health care reform. While I agree that issue needs to be talked about I think your speech should be far more expansive and address what's really been going on this country since Reagan took office. You talked about his administration being a transformative presidency. What we, the vast majority; want is for yours to be a transformative presidency. Only this tranformation is to take us in the right direction.

We've had year after year increases in productivity without the people sharing in the wealth created by that hard work. We've seen executive pay go through the roof while those very same executives cut worker benefits, shift more and more of the cost of health care onto us and stifle our wages. All this while sending jobs overseas to the lowest bidder with no care about what they do to the environment in China or India. What we need is a "fair deal".

We've seen a shift in the tax burden away from federally based progressive income taxes to state and local regressive taxes. We've seen the majority of American based corporations avoid paying any income taxes. We, the people; are reaching the breaking point, with stagnant and declinging wages, less and less benefits and more and more work. These people at the top have no use for their fellow Americans. I would say they even revile us. Red, white or blue isn't their favorite color, it's money green and they've shown this time and time again.

Health care is controlled by the profit driven monied interests, whose only concern is the bottom line, rewarding executives and the stockholder. Their loyalty is to themselves, not to our country, it's people or it's future. They have sold us out and will continue to do so if we allow it.

It is time you stand tall, Mr. President and show the fire in your belly. We need you to explain to the American people with passion what's been going on, whose been benefiting, the extent to which they've been benefiting and how the majority has been losing for years. It is time, Mr. President for you to transform your presidency and more importantly our country.

I'm with you Mr. President as are the vast majority of the American people and more will be with you if you tell them straight out why you care about them and what these greedy, self absorbed, short sighted, money mongering jerks have been up to.
