Parents in my sons school district scared that Obamas speech addresses homosexuality and healthcare
"On the 8th, at 12:00 noon (ET), the President will be delivering an address directed toward the nation’s students. This will be the first time in our nation’s history that a President has directly addressed the nation’s youth as a group.

There has been much confusion about the topics to be covered by the President, and my office has received lots of calls from very concerned parents who have been misinformed about the purpose of the speech.

The speech will be about education – its value, its importance, and the student’s individual stake in it. The speech will not be about health care. (The President’s has announced a separate speech on health care which will occur the following day, September 9, and which will not be directed at students. The two speeches have been confused). The President will also not be addressing students on homosexuality – apparently another misunderstanding.

Here is a link for all the details. I’ll leave you to it. http://www.ed.gov/admins/lead/academic/bts.html

As with any part of the instructional program, parents can opt-out of any classroom activity that teachers may choose to conduct and which the parents find objectionable for personal reasons. Some parents, apparently (based on the calls we have received), so object to the President of the United States addressing a speech to their child.

If parents do not want their child to watch the President of the United States directly address the nation’s K-12 students, that is their right. If they choose to opt-out, teachers may assign an alternative activity or assignment."

Also, to avoid any misunderstanding, no teacher is required to participate in the event.

4. Regardless,If Obama speaks there or not..
do these silly ass people really think they can hide there children from the real world forever. That is what is wrong with some of these rightwingers now, they don't realize that the country is not just composed of white people and some leave their little towns and are faced with the real world they face culture shock.

This is what their parents are dealing with now, they weren't paying attention to what was going on during the bush years until they realize that a black man was running and then winning and that blew their damn minds!!!

Wake up you silly as freeper/trolls this country is composed of gay, straight, black, white, asian, hispanic, and others, you can't control everyone in the world. Wake up!

Great. That way teachers who prefer to be ignorant can't be held responsible for giving their students misinformation if they ask about any part of the address. :eyes: I'm so glad that we're supporting teachers being ignorant and racist.
