What happened to all that respect for the President
The commander in chief in a time of war. How necessary it was to support him. Respect for the office he holds. How it was unpatriotic to be overly critical ETC ETC ETC

Fuck these people. Seriously Fuck these people.

2. The US political system has been so divided for so long, I'm
trying to remember who the last President was that was respected because of the office he held.

Think about how we all felt about "W"! Think about the was the Pubs felt about BC!

I guess in my case, although I can't say I respected GHB, I didn't HATE HIM! I didn't HATE Reagan either, at least no when he was in office. I just thought he was a mindless old man.

I loved JFK, but the Pubs hated him. LBJ came across to be as mean, but nobody pushed him around, and if the Pubs hated him, he didn't care.

I was listening to Thom Hartman today and he was playing clips of T. Roosevelt's speeches. The Pubs HATED HIM & he said he was glad they did!

Some of what we see today is 24 hr news coverage & the internet.

3. That only applies to
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 10:25 PM by ezgoingrl
WASP-y Republicans, doncha know.

Edit to add: The disrespect that I had and have for W is based on the way he does business and the people who he chooses to do business with. I disagreed with his policies, but I didn't go around making ridiculous accusations and comparing him to Hitler. If necessary, I could come up with logical and sometimes documented reasons why I did not agree with him. What is happening to Obama right now does not even compare. Even if I were face to face with W right now, I'd call him Mr. President, I may have to do it through a clenched jaw, but the Office of the President of the United States deserves nothing less. These people are fear mongering, lunatics as far as I can tell. They just say whatever comes to mind. Hell, tomorrow they'll probably accuse Obama of eating ground up babies on his evil organic salad.

4. yes, what happened to "My President"?
They used to show on the news here people who would put their hand over their heart and say "My President" in awed tones when talking about Bush. Really creepy.

guess that's your answer.

He ain't worthy of their respect, far as they are concerned.
Actually winning an election obviously doesn't mean diddly squat Anymore.
Folks respect the ones that steal elections much more.

12. Interesting OP from someone who's spent most of the past few days bashing Obama

You're giving the people you are talking about aid and comfort.

They love liberals like you that are working just as hard at attacking the President as they are. You're just attacking from a different angle.

In another post, you had this line:

"We got Jimmy Carter".

That's a line that the people you are talking about in THIS OP would be applauding.

14. Criticism vs. Attack
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 07:18 AM by AllentownJake
President Obama is a man I have a great deal of respect for and I like personally. Politically I've watched him flounder and do stupid things.

Casting me as part of the enemy because I point out that a strategy was flawed is the type of things republicans do.

I'm sorry the entire debate was lost from the beginning based on the way the debate was framed.

I stand by my LBJ/Carter Statement.

The fact of the matter is in 2012, I'll be out there knocking on doors. Where will you be.

15. Yes... but who will you be knocking doors for?

The sitting President?

or the next Ralph Nader?

Because if it is the latter, you'll be unwittingly doing the job of the GOP.

17. Relax
If I'm smart enough to see a stupid strategy.

I'm smart enough to see another stupid strategy.

The fact of the matter is I can help with 3-5% of the vote with a GOTV effort

After that, its up to him.

Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 07:28 AM by Becky72
The OP criticizes Republicans here, and if you have a problem with anti-Obama criticism that is unfair to you, you should go to that particular thread and attack the argument made there.

That's if the rules are to be respected, of course.

13. A good pal was invited to listen to Ronald Reagan address the National
Press Club.

He attended. When Reagan came into the room people stood and applauded. Many there thought Reagan was a brain-dead fool but stood and applauded his Office, the People's Office.

The same respect for the People's Office should be shown to Barack Obama, and among the far-Right conservatives, it is not.

23. That.
The pundits have worked hard at dehumanizing him, the few times I've flipped over to Hannity I've only ever heard him refer to the president as "this guy", and then there's Glenn Beck who has called him everything imaginable.

25. There is little respect for him here, on a site that is supposed to be for Democrats.
He has been called a corporate whore here (just yesterday), Bush-lite (frequently), a closet republican (today), a sell-out (constantly), a failed President (just recently), and there are calls to nominate another candidate in 2012.

People HERE have already decided that he will give up on the public option in his speech to the joint session of Congress next week. Those RW nuts have already decided that he will try to indoctrinate their children or promote homosexuality in his speech to the kids.

I don't see much difference between the 2 groups. Both are unwilling to hear him out. Both have decided he isn't fit to be President.

If Democrats are willing to prejudge him then we can't expect others to do differently. Right now the Freepers are laughing at us and enjoying every single post here like the ones I mentioned above.

Honestly, I don't know why any Democrat would want to be President.

26. His approval is at 55%
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 10:21 AM by AllentownJake
I'm sure though he's concerned about my criticism from the left when he knows in 2 years I'll shut-up get my clipboard and say what a better job he has done in comparison to the last President.

He isn't dumb. Neither am I.

I'm not a freeper. President Obama is a politician and I respect what he has accomplished in his life and his office. I disagree with him on policy. I can state that and still like the person.

I'm not a 2 year old and do not live in a 2 year old rationalization view of the world.

27. You'd never know his approval rating was that high here. And I
certainly wasn't talking about any specific posts of yours - just the general trend on a board that is for Democrats. And how that relates to the respect you mentioned in this OP.

I just wish folks would take a deep breath and hear what he has to say next week before condemning him. And to realize that if Congress sends him a bill with a public option he will sign it. If they don't he may still have to sign whatever they send. Their role in this is HUGE. Yet we seem to want to lay all blame at Obama's feet. Sure there's an occasional post about this or that Senator, but the replies in those threads number in the teens. The blame-Obama-only threads get replies in the 100s, with most of the posts willing to do just that - blame Obama only.
