Now what do I mean by that you may ask.

Quite simply, out or our school district with over 1400 families, 50 have called and not wanted their kids to hear the President.

Let me break that down for you. That is 0.0357 of all the parents in our school district complaining.

It gets top billing in our local paper as a tsunami of protest.

People are under the impression that a majority of parents are opposed to having their children listen to the President speak on staying in school.

Let me repeat.. that was 0.0357%

That is true of so much of what we are seeing, going on in this country with all the commotion and nonsense at birther, deather, racist, gun toting extremists trying to take over our country.

4. I wonder if we are about to have a dentist moment.. like the McCarthy hearings
When even the media starts to point how the crazies are running this country into the ground. I read about that little dentist who finally confronted McCarthy at the hearings about ruining peoples lives (looking for commies under every rock)

8. I had no idea that happened. Normal people like us to stand up to the crazies.
I never knew much about McCarthy, now you made me want to get a book about him...

13. It was a very dark time for the country.. Makes what is going on today
look like a walk in the park in some senses. But the McCarthy era is what gave rise to the 60's with all the changes that came from that..

5. Get a load of this letter I got
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 08:34 AM by countingbluecars
in response to one I wrote to my School Board members.

Dear,

Thank you for your heartfelt letter. I appreciate your sentiments. The
decision was made by the Loudoun County Public Schools administration,
not the School Board. I am fairly confident that had the School Board
been asked to decide the question, the vote would have been not to show
the event. I would certainly have voted not to allow the event to be
shown.

I have no idea if it is a policy speech, a political speech, an
education speech -- whatever it is -- we will not show it on September
8. It may very well be that high school and middle school teachers find
a way to work it into our curriculum in the future, and students will
have the right to opt out.

By the way, School Board members usually give speeches at BackTo School
Nights in Loudoun, the purpose of which is extol the virtues of voting
for school bonds in November. Since we have no bonds on the ballot this
coming November, we are not making speeches. Our cousel advises against
it because it might be seen as “political,” by some parents.

Our first day's activities are tightly planned out ahead of time, as you
may know. Secondarily, neither the President nor the White House
bothered to inform -- much less ask permission to broadcast this event
from the Superintendent of Schools. As it happens, neither the
President nor the White House bothered to inform the Virginia Department
of Education of the event.

What they did was write letters to school principals. They apparently
also included curriculum lesson plans

I seriously doubt very many school principals in America, let alone
Loudoun County, who would actually schedule this event for each class --
and force school children to watch it -- without permission from the
school administration, the parents of school children or the local
school board.

Your letter is one of only a few I have recieved from someone who
desires the video to be shown -- but I have a couple of dozen from
people who are more outraged than you, because they seem to believe
everything they see on Fox News or hear on Rush Limbaugh. They think we
are showing it, and they are seriously upset.

I have had quite a few parents write to me and call me to express thier
outrage, and to request that if we were to broadcast it in their child's
classroom -- I daresay, demand -- that we permit their student to opt
out.

I would be happy to actually talk to you on the phone, if you so desire.

With personal regards,

6. well, it's actually 3.57%
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 08:35 AM by gmoney
you slid the decimal a couple places. It happens.

Still, 96% haven't protested. Maybe that should be the story?

But damn, it's the President. What horrible things are they thinking he'll say? "Rise up and kill your teachers?"

9. .0357 is 3.57%... but that is neither here nor there..
The fact that 96% have not called is exactly the story.

18. right, but .0357 is not .0357% as stated in the OP.
Kind of like when a store puts up a sign where bananas are ".49¢" a pound. I'm always tempted to go in, take 10 pounds of bananas to the register and give them a nickel.

15. FUX does nothing but spread lies and propaganda 24/7...
I think many people underestimate the seriousness of what the consequences of their blatant lies and intentional disinformation have been to the detriment of this country. I consider them a dangerous entity and a threat to democracy in this country.

16. Media is trying to mainstream all this stuff, for some reason. In the past the fringe barely got
any coverage.

Either that or the media is confusing the fringe for the mainstream.
