http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/archives/speeches/1988/111488c.htm

I went to probably one of the more liberal schools in the country and the only complaints for his or Poppy's address' came from a couple of the individual students.

Communists, South American dictators, limited government, religious people, taxes. Mostly all in the body of Reagan's speech and he certainly felt very free to pitch right handed when he responded to questions posed.

This latest dust up is reprehensible and is pretty much a complete kiss off of our entire process. If the Republicans/conservatives are going to go here then the system is broken, they are apparently only willing to participate in the society and abide the rule of law when they are in charge. This state is unacceptable and unsustainable, this mentality can only have a very limited set of outcomes-dissolution of the Union, Civil War, or a thugocracy were the biggest bully runs the show.

We are going to have to kick their asses in figuratively or literally. They are de-legitimizing the whole democratic process at the bud, at this point. Not to mention bullying their way to negating elections they cannot muster votes enough to win. Next thing we know they will be using their new found strength of intimidation through fervent insanity to further and more quickly destroy education.

Look at how they project, exaggerate, and lie just based off of this minuscule school address issue and then play those results against the background of real problems and it starts to become clear that it is going to take more than winning some elections to accomplish much at all while they remain this large of a segment of the country. Up to around 40% of the population is utterly batshit and it is dangerous on a global scale to allow them to dictate the nation's course any longer.

1. You are right - it needs to stop
wtf....?

Should we collectively start calling the secret service and reporting these people more rigoriously?

Do we start a petition or write a collective letter to the ACLU or something ...?

One on one confrontations don;t do the trick...we need to confront the MEDIA for inflaming the bullshit (cnn, abc, all of them!)

AND call attention to the ELECTED oifficials who are stirring the pot of hate as well...they should have fbi & ss on their doorstep the very next day... oh, but that will really make Obama look like a nazi, huh?

any ideas?

3. I was what, 7 when that speech occured.
Went waaayyyy over my head...South American dictators? Shit, I probably could not find it or spell it on a map at that age.

At any rate, if the president were white and Republican, but giving the EXACT same speech as Pres. Obama, there would not be a problem.
Everybody and they mama knows what's the real deal here. it's about race, propaganda, and utter stupidity.

Too bad these parents can't get this worked up over low wages for college graduates or heavy metal pollution in schools or asbestos in schools, etc. ad infinitum.

Particularly a Koran-reading, socialist negro. :sarcasm:

9. I hope someone is sending this to the media
Wait, they're paid millions and have dozens of assistants. Why can't they find it themselves? Hmmm....

10. The thought that a speech by Obama will turn kids liberal is ridiculous.
They have limited concepts of politics and government. I heard Reagan in '88 in 7th grade and don't remember it.

11. "Up to around 40% of the population is utterly batshit..."
It's about 25-30% I would say. And short of deporting or exterminating them (obviously not viable options), what can be done?

The media makes it appears as if their idiotic rambling about Socialism, Death Panels, Indoctrination, and the like is equally as credible as anything factual, reality-based if you will.

It's a sad state when outright lies and nonsense are treated as serious policy positions in the national media.

But you if try to reinstate the Fairness doctrine, they'd howl to the high heavens about censorship, not that the Fairness Doctrine would do anything about cable shows spreading lies and hate.

If these mouth-breathers don't quit with the bullshit and come to their senses (which will NEVER happen), then I foresee a civil war in our near future.

12. Kids were asking about the federal deficit. Yeah right.
Unbelievable. Planted questions that Reagan wanted to talk about. What 8th grader today is so concerned about the federal deficit?
