1. I'm for a trigger. I'd say that 30 to 60 days should be plenty of time. |
|
Beyond that is stalling on purpose.
These Blue Dogs/Republicans must think I was born yesterday.

3. I'm being serious. How many days do they need to scale back their bonuses? |
|
How many weeks does it take to change a few lines on some computer generated paper work?
Okay- 3 months at that's my final offer.

4. Agreed. It's just a way to stall things for the insurance co's |
|
Who are, in my opinion, nothing more than glorified and respected criminal operations whose executives wear 3-piece suits and work in fancy, high-rise buildings. Any member of Congress - Democrat or Republican - who pushes for some 1-2 year "trigger" obviously knows how criminal the insurance co's are, but are acting as accessories to the insurance co's crimes.

5. Id seriously favor a legit trigger to Medicare for All over an active firewalled, imcompetent option |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 01:48 PM by Oregone
Since I think the later is in the works, the "trigger" could possibly be a bargaining chip to get a stronger option.
If it wouldn't be used in this way, then fuck it.
The main problem is that it seems, from the start of this debate, the direction isn't benevolently in the interests of the actually people. So, well, a trigger probably wouldn't be designed to be either. I can create a hypothetical in my mind where it would be beneficial. In reality, it would probably just "trigger" the same shitty option, and the trigger conditions will be designed to never actually be met.

6. Unfortunately, the corporate Democrats don't have a strong public option in mind |
|

The scenario you describe could be useful to getting real reform accomplished, but we've got members of Congress who are clearly using the "trigger" as a way to prevent a strong public option in the first place.

Im just mentioning a hypothetical as a method to play Devil's Advocate. If the Democrats have to cave to the Democrats, maybe one of them could pick up my strong-option compromise idea and run with it. But probably, not going to happen.

14. Where's the "delay, delay, delay until it's dead" option |
|
The Republicans have suggested a trigger. Let's ask someone worrying about losing their home over out-of-control medical expenses if THEY favor a trigger. How long can THEY afford to wait.
The Lone Ranger had Trigger. Obama is not the Lone Ranger. He's got many, many people TODAY in trouble riding this problem along with him who need a public option by TOMORROW. So, as far as I am concerned, no trigger, and NO DELAY.

Sorry tired tonight ... but I stand firm on not accepting a trigger. People can't wait.

Oh yes, it is coming back. Roy had Trigger stuffed, didn't he? That's what I would like the Republicans to do with their trigger.

15. People looking for alternative solutions for universal health coverage |
|
The goals are the exact same as people who want single payer coverage, just a different way of doing it.
The problem is getting enough political support to get a health care bill, so politicians are proposing different ways of achieving the same goal.
