Here's my PREDICTION: A national co-op with a public trigger after 5 years if it's deemed a failure
They'll do a co-op, but if the co-op fails to insure people and/or bring down the prices, there'll be a trigger where the govt. would then take over the co-op creating a public option.

Good, bad, suitable compromise...what do you think?

1. major victory for the insurance companies.
If this happens, Obama can move back to Chicago - his presidency will be over.

12. Oh, I know.

I think that's how it will play out too. And I can live with it...provided the triggers are expedient and firm.

Many liberals will not be happy, though it will represent (one of) the most sweeping health care reform packages ever enacted.

15. well I'll be more than happy to take my lumps but
we've been down paths before where insurance companies were supposedly reined in. Look where it got us.
With SCOTUS all set to do away with any campaign finance rules this was probably our only chance.
Plus now the wingers know that Obama will back down to their echo chamber.

2. Who deems? What's a failure? Who enforces? What happens if it's not enforced?
Can Congress reverse this?

Yes, let's shovel money to insurance companies and do nothing for the next five years and most likely beyond.

4. Triggers and co-ops are a sham.
Don't fall for that crap.

6. It doesn't matter.
The rethuglican media has already poisoned the message beyond repair. Even if a public option gets passed, they have fouled peoples' opinions so badly that I don't think the Democrats will hang onto Congress next year. Judging by the polls, people are feasting on the shit sandwiches they're being fed. If it comes to pass that they are stupid enough to put Congress back in the hands of the rethuglicans, the rethugs will reverse any plan that is put into place.

7. If you changed 5 years to a review every 6 months, that might be okay.

9. The reason for the 5 year timeline is obvious.
So everybody can put off dealing with it again until after the next election cycle.

10. I don't think the Progressive Caucus would agree to that.
You'd need a bunch of Republican votes to pass that bill.

Of course, you might be able to get them. The insurance industry really wants 40 million new customers. They might be able to twist enough Republican arms to get it done.
