Suggestion to teachers: Read Obama's speech to the class yourself
since the text will be released beforehand you should be able to read it out loud to your class.
From what I have read no school is preventing that.
And then you can lead a discussion on why this speech is so vile that it is being banned in schools across the country.

1. And it will be OK
because the kids won't have to see the BLACK face of the guy who is the President of the United States.

:sarcasm:

3. I would hope an actual teacher
would phrase your third sentence in a different way, since that's not the reason it's not being shown in some schools.

4. No. That would imply the President is unfit to read his own message.

6. The reason that the speech is important is because Obama DID work hard in school
and DID achieve his goals. He wasn't born wealthy but he achieved through hard work and dedication. That's why it means something coming from Obama.

8. It isn't banned
in my district, in my county, or in anyplace I've heard of (yet) in my state.

It isn't banned in the out-of-state district or county I previously taught in. Of course, I haven't kept up with the news, being damned busy putting my classroom together.

I know the right-wing media whores are whipping up a frenzy, and I know right-wing parents are protesting.

We aren't watching it live, but that's because of the timing. It starts before school does on the very first day of the year.
