What don't they get?

The private, free market, largely unregulated insurance companies have had decades to do the right thing and provide ethical health coverages. They CHOSE not to. They CHOSE to have their repellant practices which actually KILLED and bankrupted people but which paid those at the top (and our reps) very handsomely.

Our Congress - "Here you go Mr. Insurance Company - you have been very very bad, but we're going to give you another chance to screw the American people for a few more years. If you continue to be very very bad, we will have to regulate and compete with you. Take it down a notch to just very bad, ok? One hand washes the other, wink, wink."

Kim Jong Il: Hans Brix? Oh no! Oh, herro. Great to see you again, Hans!

Hans Blix: Mr. Il, I was supposed to be allowed to inspect your palace today, but your guards won't let me enter certain areas.

Kim Jong Il: Hans, Hans, You're bustin' my barrs Hans! We've been frew this a dozen times. I don't have any weapons of mass destwuction, OK Hans?

Hans Blix: Then let me look around, so I can ease the UN's collective mind. I'm sorry, but the UN must be firm with you. Let me in, or else.

Kim Jong Il: Or else what?

Hans Blix: Or else we will be very angry with you... and we will write you a letter, telling you how angry we are.

Kim Jong Il: OK, Hans. I'll show you. Stand to your reft.

Hans Blix: (Moves to the left)

Kim Jong Il: A rittle more.

Hans Blix: (Moves to the left again)

Kim Jong Il: Good.

3. Phoebe, you nailed it!
Big Insurance gets NO MORE chances to fuck the people over. The only way to maintain a 'free market' is to FORCE real competition on them.

5. what they Might be planning is....
to add this fucking trigger so they can get 60 votes in the Senate. Then pass a bill with no trigger in the House. THEN through reconciliation, change when the triggers activate so we get what we want almost as if there were no trigger at all. We would only need 50 votes in the Senate at that point (plus V.P. to break the tie).

This will help us focus the debate on just exactly how many people die every year from lack of proper care, and how many go bankrupt, and how many are denied any treatment at all, or how many claims are denied etc etc etc

6. Yes, I agree. It is past a trigger point now.
People are dying, we don't need triggers.
