This doesn't sound like a support for the Public Option |
|
the notion that he's not going to dog the left and say a bill is better than nothing doesn't sound good to me IF politico is right about the text of the speech. http://www.politico.com/

1. Many Pundits have said He(Obama) just wants a bill to sign. |
|
I remain hopeful that he will do the right thing.
On Cable channels especially, any bill is better than not passing something has been the theme.

3. If the bill doesn't have the PO, it could still do some good |
|
It has to pass both Houses whatever is in it, if both Houses won't pass it, then would it really be better for Obama to veto it and have nothing change? There could still be good things in it.

But I think we are in the minority here. Some folks would rather have the status quo if they can't have it all.

5. I think the thing behind some preferring the status quo if they can't have it all... |
|
... is that in due course, the status quo will finally become so utterly intolerable to such a vast majority that there will be widespread cries for revolutionary action, that not merely a public option, but a true national, universal, tax-supported health system will be established. Ad hoc half-measures such as those now being debated, once implemented, only serve to forestall the inevitable day when the US joins the rest of the developed world.
Politicians are such chickenshits, it's a wonder people still vote for them.

6. That couldn't be the same people though who are saying |
|
things like they need health care now and people are going to die now, etc.
Because a lot of people would die in the meantime or suffer lack of health care, just because these people can't handle incremental change.
It's like the Republicans hoping to starve the government out of existence - letting people die or suffer during Katrina, for instance, just to prove a point that government doesn't work well.

11. Yuck, that's Tweety's line, alright. |

He'll be happy with any bill, so long as Obama can put a "W" in the win/loss column. And he's touting the shitty moderate conservative line that to be credible, healthcare reform has to get sixty votes in the Senate. Screw that--I want some reasonably leftish goodness (with a big ol' public option) that passes with a bare majority and makes the likes of Conrad, Baucus, and Ben Nelson break out in hives. I love Tweety but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him, philosophically--he's not my kind of lefty, or any kind of lefty for that matter.

2. Politico also says this - |
|
"Obama will try to reassure the left about his commitment to a public option, or government insurance plan."

7. no but it does sound like politico |

The question is, since they have been proven so unreliable in the past why do we keep posting threads about them?

Why do people keep posting from politico? What have they been right about? How the GOP is making a comeback...how the whole election was good news for John McCain...how the president is going to indoctrinate scholl kids on tuesday. Stop linking them.
