GOP fail, as a result of the school speech controversy, MORE folks will be paying attention to it |
|
Seriously, I think if Obama gave this speech without the controversy it would have gotten a decent amount of coverage and some schools would have carried it (I think only a fraction of schools planned on carrying it before the controversy ensued).
Now here is what has happened:
The folks, almost all of who identify as Republican thanks to that guy in Florida, are beginning to look like absolute fringe idiots
Supporters of Obama, as well as most reasonable people with an interest in politics, education and current affairs, are pushing back and some are rallying around Obama.
Obama is dominating the news cylce and after the speech is given the discussion of the controversy will make those opposed this speech look foolish.
In some cases schools that never planned on showing the speech (as I said I bet a fraction of schools only planned on showing it anyway) are now getting pressure to either show it or not show it, nonetheless those kids are going to be curious and will track down the speech somehow and before the controversy those who went to schools that weren't showing the speech might not have cared either way.
In the end this is a fail for the GOP and others who sought to manufacture the controversy.

1. And some of those kids will wonder |
|
WTF is wrong with their parents for trying to prevent them from seeing it.
And maybe some will have a new, not necessarily pleasant understanding about where their parents' heads are at.

9. Wakeup call for the next generation. |
|
The ones who don't see it at school at their parent's behest but see it on YouTube will have a real eye-opening experience.

10. I do think the big threat is that these parents have done everything to demonize Obama |
|
. . .and they are going to be scared to death that their children will find him likeable and reasonable.

2. And pissed off liberals like me |
|
have been defending Obama against angst ridden bigots who are collectively responsible for this created controversy even though we're currently pissed off on the healthcare/LGBT rights/Iraq War/War Crimes prosecutions fronts.
So they've defeated themselves on two fronts because so long as they keep attacking Obama, liberals will jump to his defense even though they may be pissed off at him while the middle will defend him because the right wing are just being insane.

6. More People will end up watching -- Defeating Republicans main goal |
|
Kids and parents and those out of curiosty from all this talk about the controvesy will tune in...very common by anything that leads to controversies which is going to be televised. Before this it is unlikely to have gotten very many viewers...typical...i for one would not have watched (yawn). But now...even though i KNOW it will be your standard stay in school speech i will tune in just because whateva....gotta do my part as a fellow "sheep".
Those who have never decided to listen to Obama will for the 1st time get their chance and see how reasonable he is and might even cause some kids to grow up as democrats (away from their parent repubs)

don't want to be associated with Republicans and they will be even more isolated - no mean feat.

A lot of "mainstream" Republicans are just plain crazy. Keep the reminders coming.

12. Just repeating his NAACP themes will give Obama a win |
|
Anyone who read 'Dreams from my Father' will not be surprised that Obama will deliver a message of hard work, optimism and personal responsibility. He spoke strongly about personal responsibility in his speech to the NAACP. http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2009/07/obamas_naacp_speech.html
