My stupid Kansas School District sent out a 'Opt-Out' voicemail! |
|
Now, I'll admit Kansas is one of the worse states in the nation for right wind nuts. We don't believe in evolution, we have Sam Brownback as a Senator and we have the wacko Fred Phelps from the Westboro Church who protests about Gays at funerals!
So the Blue Valley school district in Overland Park sent us a VM telling us that they would allow the kids to see the speech but that any Parent could Opt-Out of the speech with no punishment. Now I think this is better than some other districts but my issue is that they had to allow the Opt-Out when they have plenty of other speakers (anti-drug, Army, Etc) that they provide no warning about.
I fired off the message below to the administrators....
"I received a voice mail that you are giving parents a choice to opt-out of the Presidents speech to kids on Tuesday! I find this totally and completely ridiculous! You honestly are allowing a few nutty parents to scare you enough to send a VM that warns the parents about the speech and allows them to request their kids not listen to his speech. I hope this means that ALL FUTURE speakers, either live or on tape, will cause the same voice mail to be issued allowing us to make decisions on them also. I know in the past my kids have came home talking about speakers that I never received a VM on. I hope this will not happen again! Please respond and let me know that the policy is going to be the same for all speakers as it is for Obama!"
I doubt it matters but it still pisses me off!

If they're going to let parents opt-out of a televised speech by the president, then they should let parents opt-out of having their kids listen to other guest speakers.

10. I think teachers should give a test next day based on the content of the speech. |
|
And it should count for 10 per cent of the final mark.
