I'm sure you are familiar with the ad where a guy sits down at a table with two kids and asks the first one if she wants a pony. She says 'yes' and he gives her a plastic pony. Asks the second kid. She says 'yes'. He makes a clicking sound and a real pony walks out.
Well, in a short time, we all will be getting a plastic pony whose magical name is "Healthcarereform". THEN, the White House will drop 20 tons of horseshit on us and tell us that, honestly, it's a real, real pony!
It will be a light slap to the insurance companies; followed by total Republican take over by 2012 (go to the bank on it); and the new majority will repeal those nasty restrictions. We will be left with the shovel to clean up after the imaginary pony.
I have to ask Obama where he would be today if people like MLK, etc. hadn't stood up to the "establishment" and fought for what was right.

4. Where would seniors be today without LBJ? |

I'm afraid you're probably right. The amazing thing, to me, is the administration seems to think if they cave on everything Democrats want, the Republicans are going to give them their votes. Just wait. Maybe Olympia Snowe, maybe Susan Collins, but that's it. It's going down just like the stimulus bill. Republicans will weaken it as much as they can and then they will all vote against it.

I live in Maine. Collins has secured her seat from now until forever after. She will not play ball with us. Snowe is a God here. She really doesn't have to do anything. She's worth $54 million and counting. Her husband is a useless bum. If he wants a pocket load of insurance money, she will vote with the Repukes, etc. It's the same comfortable zone that our Blue Dogs live in. They will screw all of us to please the 10 people who are the total population of their state!!! Our problem is ourselves. We really are not in power because we really are not one party. The Repukes are in heaven because we have a non-functioning government which is what they live for.

7. I always thought Snowe and Collins were a little more receptive. |

My brother lives in Portland and I email him about once a week with instructions on how he should complain in the emails I bug him to send them. Maybe I should give my brother a break if they're a lost cause.

and those who believed this for one second were full of horseshit already.
Perhaps you are getting the current administration confused with the "40 acres and a Mule" (not a pony) rethoric of eras gone by?
One think that the Civil Rights movement was, if nothing else, was Patient.....and they accepted incrementals steps over nothing at all, because they understood that there was no magic bullet in getting the country behind them in doing what was right (other than the bullet that ended up murdering the one that campaigned on doing civil Rights Legislation).
The other difference is that the Civil Rights Movement was willing to make its own sacrifice, and were far from being a movement that sat on the sideline and simply moaned and groaned and demonized those in power. That's why many were arrested, and some were even killed.
Further, leaders like MLK didn't shit all over JFK (although he was honest in his appraisal of that President), and that's with JFK not signing any Civil Rights Legislation into law (and in particular in the first 8 months of his adminstration), although he was in the White House for 3.11 years. Those are facts you need to keep in mind the next time you want to bring MLK into the conversation as to what he would think....instead of the speculative bullshit based on your own pony dreams that you bring to this forum.
I don't blame you for hiding your profile....cause I would too if I were you.
YOU FUCKING FAIL!
PS: As well, I want to let you know in advance that there is no magic negro, just in case that was to be your next thread topic.

9. Have you ever asked a WHITE president where he would be |
|
if, say....FDR "hadn't stood up to the "establishment" and fought for what was right?"
Do you have the slightest idea how bigoted, and ironic, your last statement is? After all, it was MLK who dreamed of a country where people "will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
So because Obama is black you expect more from him? He owes us more because of the color of his skin?
It's sad, and very telling that even DUers see Obama only as a black man instead of as just a man!
