Rep. Henry Waxman: "there may not be as much of a need for the public plan"
White House Draws Limited Role For Public Option
Chicago Tribune
September 6 ,2009

But Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles), the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee took a cooler approach. Although an ardent advocate of the public option, Waxman said he understands that Obama needs room to maneuver in the debate.

In an interview Friday with Tribune Washington Bureau, he acknowledged that the public option might not be an absolute necessity.

"If there is a lot of competition and people are treated fairly, then there may not be as much of a need for the public plan," he said.

1. Like Insurance Companies Are Going to Be Fair
Give me a break. These companies are in business to make money--they are not non-profts.

3. You have to wonder if Waxman believes what he's saying
Insurance is already over priced and every year the cost goes up while covering less. Does he think they'll drop their prices so more people can afford their shoddy product?

5. Waxman has done a sudden 180 and there was speculation about it here
a week or so ago - along the lines of - who put the horse's head in Waxman's bed?

If one searches for that, I'm sure you'll find the comments.

7. One argument I have not heard from anyone, Obama or otherwise
is that for-profit healthcare is immoral. Bill Moyers has said this and I agree. It is unconscionable to permit this system to go on any longer when it means thousands die due to lack of coverage.
