Brokaw clueless about the cost of the public option
Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 01:48 PM by ProSense
Actually, it'd save money and reduce the deficit

Tom Brokaw -- after lecturing us on how ignorant Americans are when it comes to health care reform -- wrongly claims that the public option would cost $1 trillion.

Video

Uh, actually a preliminary CBO estimate said the public option would save $150 billion. Yes, save. The fact is, health care reform without a public option would be more expensive than health care reform with a public option. (And as a nice little bonus, a smaller proportion of the money would go to the private health insurance companies that created the health care mess int he first place.)

1. You could have omitted the last seven words of your post title
And it would still be true. Truer, perhaps.

2. Brokaw has never been one to side with Democrats.
He's usually on the distortion side of most any issue.

4. Another 'expert'? I wish he'd retire already. imo he showed his true
colors during the debates. It'd be nice if someone from the CBO was asked to comment, but I s'pose that would take too much effort.

5. the fact that the CBO has determined that a public opton would SAVE money
should be ALL OVER HE NEWS RIGHT NOW. one of the biggest complaints by conservatives is that the so called "governmen takeover' of health care would cost money. Here we have independant evidence it would save money. I HOPE OBAMA USES THIS fact IN HIS SPEECH. THis is huge and a game changer in the debate.
