If health care doesn't pass it is Congressional Democrats, particularly the blue dog variety, that will pay the price next year...

After the debacle in 1994 it was Congressional Dems who took the hit, President Clinton was reelected easily...

On Wednesday he should say in no uncertain terms that he will veto any health bill that does not contain a robust public option...with no trigger bullshit...

If Dems in Congress get it through...great!

If not, they get crushed next year, Obama suffers some immediate erosion in support but rebounds in time for 2012...

Put all the pressure on Dems in Congress...either they pass it or die...simple as that!!!

1. Or, alternatively, I smell a number two and someone should flush it
before we're royally screwed.

3. To continue your poker analogy, Obama will throw away the
nuts on the river against any bet. My read on Obama is he is a loose/passive player, always a loser regardless of the cards he holds. Sorry folks I don't want it to be that way but that is his history to this point. It is early in his Admin but with the media pushing 100 days then 6 months like they were meaningful thresholds and the election season starting late next year the Presidential term is actually compressed and slow playing your hand is a sure way to lose.

4. The Executive Branch does not write legislation
The House and the Senate write the bills and the President signs them into law. The President can only give advise about bills, he cannot dictate what is in them.

So far, there has not been a vote on a single bill, so it is a little early to predict the outcome of bills that have not even come up for a vote.

Also, Health Care legislation is not going to be a one shot deal. Once in place, the law will be amended by Congress every year forever - just like Social Security.

Public option, triggers, required coverage, optional coverage, or whatever; we just have to take it as the first cut. We can amend the law in the next session of Congress and move in the direction we need to go. If President Obama works issue correctly, we could have the single payer option in five years.
