"about 10 phone calls and e-mails" -- No Obama speech tomorrow
Colonial Heights is also known as "Colonial Whites" around here because IT IS NOT PETERSBURG (other side of the river);-)

Colonial Heights schools won’t show Obama speech tomorrow

Colonial Heights is joining the list of school systems in central Virginia that are electing not to air tomorrow's daytime presidential address to students.

Superintendent Joseph O. Cox Jr. wrote in a brief letter posted Saturday on the school system's Web site that Colonial Heights won't show Obama's address during the school day tomorrow, the first day of school for many metropolitan Richmond localities.

Cox said the school system received about 10 phone calls and e-mails regarding Obama's speech and that his decision to not show the speech was made in conjunction with the School Board.

"There certainly has been some concern out there in some quarters about what the speech may or may not say," Cox said. "Like I said, for us, I think it came down to looking at that first day and all the things that go into that first day," he said.

Hanover, Chesterfield and Powhatan counties' school systems also will not show the speech at 1 p.m. Hanover will record the speech and provide it along with supplemental instructional materials for teachers to use later.

9. That isn't education; that's reactionary BS!
This is a standard motivational speech to school children from the current U.S. president--it's not new.

Where are people coming up with this stuff--from the media?

8. ROFL!
"littered with trophies for coming in second place"

 That is a keeper

There seems to be more pride about losing the War of Northern Aggression than about being one of the original 13 colonies....

6. They just needed an excuse
I doubt they really wanted to show it in the first place and the 10 parents who called gave them the excuse to pull the plug.

11. Here on the Central Coast of California, schools are offering
parents alternative curriculum if they don't want their children to be subjected to President Obama's address to them. I wonder if that alternative curriculum involves sheets and pointy little hoods?

15. Well they just got an email from me. 10 emails? They better hold onto their damn seats now.
Flood them with emails.

I told them flat out that racists have no place in a system responsible for educating our young citizens. And those young citizens will grow up to remember exactly what happened on this day and why.
