Since when have school systems in the USA become private?
The school systems have gone crazy over Obama's speech. Since when have they become private entities? Perhaps someone should remind them that they are a government service and our tax dollars pay for them! They have no right to behave this way.

1. Much as I'd like to agree, schools are neither federal or state operated governmental organizations.
While some are county operated, most are district-based and use mostly local property taxes and state funds to operate.

Local control through school boards and superintendents means that they can get away with this.

Unfortunately.

3. We do, but it's limited to the districts in which we live, though we can complain more broadly.
I think we need to call on elected officials at every level to speak out against the unpatriotic behavior of the disruptors.

Of course, many are chicken shit, afraid of what the RW can do to them.

But the most direct influence we can bring to bear is to the school boards and administrators in our communities because we can toss them right out of office.

Take care!

Have you read the speech?

6. School boards are either elected or appointed.
If they are appointed they are generally by the mayor.

All the more reason to elect good mayors and/or school boards.

They don't get away with it unless the above are allowed to get away with it by those that elect them. Of course, there are situations where the voters are ignorant or otherwise uninvolved.

4. Parents have an obscene amount of sway.
Squeaky wheel, grease, etc, but two or three motivated (spiteful) parents can get a whole district to sit up and beg.
