Palin : "The president's proposals would give unelected officials life-and-death rationing powers."
She's back...

Obama and the Bureaucratization of Health Care
The president's proposals would give unelected officials life-and-death rationing powers
By SARAH PALIN

Writing in the New York Times last month, President Barack Obama asked that Americans "talk with one another, and not over one another" as our health-care debate moves forward.

I couldn't agree more. Let's engage the other side's arguments, and let's allow Americans to decide for themselves whether the Democrats' health-care proposals should become governing law.

Some 45 years ago Ronald Reagan said that "no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds." Each of us knows that we have an obligation to care for the old, the young and the sick. We stand strongest when we stand with the weakest among us.

<SNIP>

Now look at one way Mr. Obama wants to eliminate inefficiency and waste: He's asked Congress to create an Independent Medicare Advisory Council—an unelected, largely unaccountable group of experts charged with containing Medicare costs. In an interview with the New York Times in April, the president suggested that such a group, working outside of "normal political channels," should guide decisions regarding that "huge driver of cost . . . the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives . . . ."

Given such statements, is it any wonder that many of the sick and elderly are concerned that the Democrats' proposals will ultimately lead to rationing of their health care by—dare I say it—death panels? Establishment voices dismissed that phrase, but it rang true for many Americans. Working through "normal political channels," they made themselves heard, and as a result Congress will likely reject a wrong-headed proposal to authorize end-of-life counseling in this cost-cutting context. But the fact remains that the Democrats' proposals would still empower unelected bureaucrats to make decisions affecting life or death health-care matters. Such government overreaching is what we've come to expect from this administration.

3. Are the insurance company bureaucrats elected officials?
I don't think so, Governor Palin. So we currently have unelected bureaucrats making these kinds of decisions.

12. Preach it!
That is always one of their lamest "arguments". We already have people monkeying around with our health care, they are profit driven corporations and they are unaccountable to the folks they shaft.

Empowering "unelected bureaucrats to make decisions affecting life or death health-care matters" is what we have now with the insurance companies, dipshit.

I don't remember him saying that. Ever. The quote sounds more like a Ted Kennedy quote.

I'm amazed at the ease in which she lies.

25. It's from his "Rendezvous with Destiny Speech":

"I think we are for telling our senior citizens that no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds. But I think we are against forcing all citizens, regardless of need, into a compulsory government program, especially when we have such examples, as announced last week, when France admitted that their Medicare program was now bankrupt. They've come to the end of the road."

27. thanks for the refernece/context, but I'm curious about the
France's program being brankrupt...and so much for 'they've come to the end of the road' portion of his statement.

It all still points to the fact the Sarah really doesn't know what the hell she is talking about.

11. Give us, dear Sarah, the names of the numbskulls who feed you
these lines.

We take note that you repeat them merrilly, as if words had no consequences.

You never had our vote to begin with. You lost a lot of your fellow countrypersons' votes by repeated the words you were handed in St. Paul roughly a year ago. This is a nation of communities among which organizers are soul and glue and grit and clarity and survival.

For you and whoever wrote your address that night to have missed that crucial point suggested to quite a lot of people whose lives depend on communities that you were a propagandist, a shallow, brittle, propagandist who will say anything on a page someone hands her just to draw attention to yourself, just to debase someone else's worthy work for others.

And with this story you're clearly at it again.

Billy seems to be the one who has been managing Moosealini's disastrous political career so far. He must figure that they did so well with one moron as pResident, that they could do even better with someone even more moronic.

Kristol is my guess also.

I know he was instrumental in the famous "cruise ship" expedition of inside-the-Beltway think tank loonies and press folk in the spring of 08.

20. Yes. I'd tune in to hear that.
If she really does picture herself as the "frontrunner" for the 2012 GOP nom, at some point or other she'll have to sit down with the editorial board of the Des Moines REGISTER and actually answer questions.

22. Poor foolish Palin'. Darlin', that was GEORGE W. bUSH, REPUBLICAN wth the death panel
In 1999, then-Gov. Bush signed the Advance Directives Act, which lets a patient's surrogate make life-ending decisions on his or her behalf. The measure also allows Texas hospitals to disconnect patients from life-sustaining systems if a physician, in consultation with a hospital bioethics committee, concludes that the patient's condition is hopeless.

Making Medicare reimburse patients who want living wills etc is NOT a "death panel" you deeply stupid quitter.

26. Just another Raygun lie.
I wish we had France's level of medical care.

They didn't seem to go bankrupt, nor did any other country's socialized medical system, no matter how many times predicted by Republics over the years.

28. You'd think the Twitter Quitter would understand what Reagan said...
...when he said "no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds." That part... he got right. The part she fails to comprehend was that Reagan was AGAINST Medicare. Yunno, the government-run, socialist healthcare that even Teabaggers love and don't want the government to get... um... into the government-run program.

That said, The Quitter should feel that all people should be able to afford health care. That common fact just would throw her off.

It's as though she can't remember literally what she said mere seconds before.

For her and her fans, everyone should be able to have healthcare except that healthcare should not be for everyone and insurance companies should continue to take away healthcare even after people paid for it.

To sum it up, "no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds" except when you don't have the funds or ability to stop insurance companies from taking your coverage away.
