Chambliss expects 'humility' from Obama
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_09/019838.php

CHAMBLISS EXPECTS 'HUMILITY' FROM OBAMA.... It takes real chutzpah to be this brash.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) said {Tuesday} that, because of angry town hallers and the like, President Obama should show "humility" when he speaks to Congress Wednesday night.

"What you're seeing is folks on my side anxious to see what the president has to say tomorrow night," Chambliss said. "I think he's gonna have to express some humility based on what we've seen around the country this August and that's not his inclination."

The implication here is that Chambliss's side -- the one that opposes much of the Democrats' reform plan, especially a public option -- is winning, and that the president had better be humble.

There are two angles to this that are annoying. The first is the notion of consequences. Chambliss and those on his "side" apparently expect "humility" from the president because confused and enraged right-wing activists oppose health care reform. As John Cole asked, "Or what? You'll all vote no? Dick Armey and Freedomworks will pay for a wingnut bus across the country? Sarah Palin's ghostwriter will scribble something barely legible on Facebook? You'll hold your breath? What exactly are you all going to do? You've already cranked up the crazy to max."

The other angle, though, is how backwards Chambliss is. Indeed, for many Americans, one of the underlying problems with politics this year is that Republicans have refused to show an ounce of humility in the wake of their spectacular failures and electoral humiliations.

Saxby Chambliss wants the president of the United States to be humble. Here's a radical thought for the right-wing senator: you first.

11. 'speshully since he's been up north around those agitaters...
I realize the President has too much intelligence & class to do it, but I would dearly love to see him bow humbly to Chambliss, whilst dropping his drawers & telling him to kiss his black POTUS ass.

Old bigots may die, but apparently they never shut up. The GOP Congress didn't even demand respect from Dubya & Dickhead, let alone humility. They spent 8 years bowing & scraping & barking at the moon. God, they make me sick.

I would like our well-educated, well-spoken President to show LESS humility & tell these sphincters they lost. Get over it. Get on board the train or get run over.

ohhh Saxby, that statewide role model for humility. Does Saxby remember who he's talking about?..the President of the United States, the commander in chief of the largest military in the world, and the boss of Joe Biden..the President of the U.S. Senate!!

I think Obama doesn't need more humility, he needs to give Chambliss a nice public whipping and some humiliation. :spank:

16. I really, really want to hurl a lung......
I am so damn sick of this shit!!

Anyone else remember the 1994 elections, when Republicans gained many seats and claimed
victory??? Led by Newt Gingrich, those guys told the Democrats to eat hot death.

Democrats were not even allowed in the conversation. Those Republicans stood on the steps
of the Capitol, declared that they had a "mandate from the American people" and completely
ignored the Democrats. Dems were treated like gum on the bottom of their shoes.

Gingrich and the rest of them drafted their "Contract With America" with NO input from Democrats.

We were scum. We were irrelevant.

Now, when we have majorities in the House and Senate--and the White House---we've got Republicans
telling our President to speak with "humility".

Who in the hell are these people? Has the world gone mad? Why in the hell don't the Democrats
kick these jerks to the curb??????

I am so sick of watching this abuse cycle play out. Democrats are abused spouses and the Republicans
are the raging, abusive alcoholics. Our party acts exactly like an abuse victim. Whenever we do stand
up to them...we back down and apologize, "I'm sorry I said you were bad...please don't hate me."

Now, when we have some power--they're warning us (as all abusers tell their victims) to just reign yourselves
in and remember your place.

This is pathological!!!!! I am disgusted beyond belief!!!!

Georgia military veterans are as about right wing as it gets, yet they voted for a yellow bellied draft dodging coward who bad mouthed and denigrated a disabled Vietnam combat veteran about patriotism.....and WON!

So it's not about country with these repukes, it's all about PARTY loyalty. I hope that racist cracker gets hit by a bus.

To a war hero who was wounded in Vietnam whom he had the audacity to attack as a terrorist. Especially since Sexless the warmonger dodged Vietnam himself.

He's a disgusting, slimy, bloviating, bigoted boil on humanity who has no credibility or substance to him. And a cowardly wimp to boot

Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 12:56 AM by 4lbs
Saxby Chambliss didn't show humility when he went after Max Cleland in the elections.

Max Cleland is a Vietnam War hero who lost both his legs and one arm. Chambliss smeared him worse than the SwiftBoat Vets did Kerry. Chambliss' campaign plastered Cleland's picture next to Osama Bin Laden's and inferred that Cleland was "in bed" with the guy.

Chambliss can F*** the F*** Off for all I care!
