It has been 16 years! Since a Democratic President, addressing Congress |
|
was flanked by a Democratic V.P. and a Democratic Speaker.
In a news clip from 1993, showing President Clinton talking about health reform, he was flanked by Al Gore and Tom Foley. By 1994, Foley was gone, and then Clinton had Newt and others behind him, and then, when Pelosi became the speaker, she had to share the dais with Dick.
So tonight, when Obama is flanked by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, let's cherish this view. We will never know how many years we will see this vision, with too many DUers, and perhaps others, talking about a "2012 challenge to Obama" - meaning losing to Pawlenty (urghh) - or with Democrats shooting themselves in the foot and losing the majority in 2010.

5. As we saw in 1980, when you challenge your own president in the primaries |
|
you lose.
Why should non party loyalist vote for your party if your own people disagree?

I assume that President Obama will be the Democratic candidate in 2012, and I figured that Timmy is a long shot, so I thought I'd have fun with that combination while it was still considered viable!

9. Years ago I had a Democratic state senator by the name of Paul Offner. His campaing slogan: |
|
"Vote once, vote Offner".

Not a campaign slogan, but Washington State's Sixth District Representative Norm Dicks had an opponent back in the 1970's named Jim Beaver!

8. Did it really? I was a senior in high school in 1993...I don't know if I caught that speech or not |
|
But I posted the speech here so people can take a look at it: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8638169#8638586It was not a bad speech...but it came before the debate over health care and I guess it was forgotten.

11. I don't think that it stopped working; I think that it was not loaded |
|
when Clinton was ready. But being Clinton, he just started talking, never missing a bit.
This being 1993, he wrote it long hand on a legal pad.. same as he wrote his book after leaving office.
