I think Obama will get his bill to sign. That was his A-Game tonight. I think the repuke heckler even inspired Obama's performance up another notch.

4. That speech was a failure
in that it not only gave away the store- passed the buck, took gratuitous smacks at progressives while enabling and legitimizing the sources of the problem, but gave almost no one a coherent narrative.

Wow. Even I didn't think the administration would so willingly fail to learn from their obvious mistakes.

thinking about the speech in a seperate OP so that everyone might gain from your insights and have an opportunity to respond with a comment.

68. he didn't "announce" a public option. He made a lukewarm statement of support of it. Saying
"he announced it" makes it sound like it's actually coming. I'll bet you anything you like there's not going to be any public option.

33. damn fine speech
one of the best ever.

Without sounding sappy, I have to say that even my conservative father thinks we as a nation have been blessed to have Obama, "the right man" when we so desperately needed him.

His strength, follow through, diplomacy and moderate temperament make him a salve for 8 years of synthetic cowboy and hatriots.

76. Apart from that fool, Joe Wilson, yelping out "liar" in the joint session
of the 111th Congress, the night was Barack Obama's.

This is a political town, Washington, DC, and there were a whole buncha politicians there gathered what to hear what this new guy has to say and how he planned to say it.

The hot-headed shrieking and squawking of the past summer grew fainter with each complete sentence that Obama delivered.

Public polling following the address indicates that it was also politically successful and persuasive.

The final legislation is not going to be sculpted to the most progressive manifestation of reform but it is going to set the terms for the debate from this point forward.

A lesser president could not have achieved what Obama achieved last night in that address, and he delivered to both the anonymous citizen in Grey Bull, Wyoming and Hamilton, Ohio, but also to the hostile audience on the red side of the Congressional aisle.

It was a hard-walloped stand-up double and it knocked in several runs.
