Republican behavior at Obama's speech--maybe NOW the White House will admit what it is facing?
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 05:37 AM by DFW
Obama will not get ANY cooperation from them, and it is time to face the facts or go down hoping for a miracle that isn't coming.

It is time for all Blue Dog Democrats to put their cards on the table and say if they are really Democrats or rather Republicans
who landed on the wrong side of the aisle by mistake, because the Republicans might as well not be there, for all the "bi-partisanship"
we can expect from them. It is time to re-assess our REAL majority, which is far smaller than the number of legislators who have
a "D" in front of their names might suggest, and go forward from there.

We should not try to give ourselves any illusions. This is a declaration of war as surely as Pearl Harbor was, and the fact that
it is coming from a minority just makes it all the more flagrant for its intensity. Yesterday's conduct by the Republican lunatic
fringe was a show that will live in infamy, and all the worse for the fact that their leadership will give lip service to disapproval,
but in fact, when the cameras and mikes are turned off, smile at the dirty work done by their rank and file. Make no mistake about it.
The extreme behavior shown by the few loutish Republicans did not represent the sentiments of the rabid few. It represented the
sentiments of most of them. It's who we are truly faced with as opponents in Congress, and there will be more of them in 15 months.

Get something done now, or prepare to wish we had done so when we had the chance.

2. In case you were wondering whether the Freepers approve of Wilson's outburst...

4. As I have stated elsewhere
No, I wasn't listening. I haven't heard the speech yet. It was delivered at 2 AM my time, and I had to get up at 4:45 for work.
Day jobs do that to you, and I still work for a living.

I have gleaned a few reactions so far from brief reports here in Brussels. I have yet to hear that he recognizes (publicly) what
he is up against. Obviously he knows it full well, but the time is long since past to acknowledge it publicly, and call his
opposition for what they are. Nice was tried, as it should have been. It didn't work. It's time for stronger stuff.

5. Then, just an idea. You should probably listen to the speech before
you state as fact what the president should know by now. Just sayin.'

6. I don't think he was ever in denial about what he is dealing with

He HAS to make this effort bipartisan or at least appear bipartisan to provide some cover for the blue dogs. Fortunately, I think that everything he proposed last night are things that enough of the party and maybe even one or two Pubs like Snowe can get behind in the end, particularly the insurance reforms.
