"In the meantime, for those Americans who can't get insurance today because they have preexisting medical conditions, we will immediately offer low-cost coverage that will protect you against financial ruin if you become seriously ill. (Applause.) This was a good idea when Senator John McCain proposed it in the campaign, it's a good idea now, and we should all embrace it. "

Whose to say that this couldn't be immediate enrollment in Medicare?!

6. And what Kery wanted in 2004. McCain probably grabbed it because had nothing else.

7. Hadn't thought of that.
It would be good for those pre-existing condition folks, but Medicare needs young, healthy enrollees to spread out the risk. This could be the beginning of single payer, though, if they do it that way. It would be a good idea. If everyone had Medicare, they might be able to make Medicare better. Right now, it's not all that great. Still a lot of out-of-pocket expenses. If you can't afford a supplemental you're not going to be able to afford the deductibles and co-pays of Medicare either. Seniors with Medicare only still do not get good care because they put off visits due to the extra expense. Medicare Advantage is popular because it cuts most costs for people, but I hate the HMOs restrictions on care and providers.

8. You know, I was wondering why that didn't get more attention.
It's a great idea.
