31.8 million watched POTUS....
Nielsen: 31.8 million viewers watched Obama address

President Obama's second address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday was seen by 31.8 million viewers across 10 television networks.

Obama's viewership was up 29% from his last primetime news event -- July's press conference, which was also on the topic of health care. The president drew 39% fewer viewers, however, than his previous congressional address back in February. By way of comparison, about 31 million TV viewers likewise witnessed Michael Jackson's memorial.

21. My brother and father didn't watch it because they are republicans.
I however did watch it, so did my boyfriend in England, and so did my Mom.

I think, sadly, some people feel helpless or like they can't make a difference. This is so not true... but it is how so many people feel.

It was during the drive home for Pacific time folks, so there's also the radio numbers to consider.

15. I don't have a TV, so I watched it on whitehouse.gov
I listened to the 1st half of the speech on NPR while driving home from work and watched the remaining portion on the White House website. I'm sure many others, especially stuck in traffic on the west coast, listened on the radio or watched it on their computers at work.
