Ins. CO's are NOT going to lose money on this.
There going to make it up on the currently insured by raising rates.
WITHOUT cost caps those of us who are already being gouged for coverage are going to
get it even worse.

Those of us who already have insurance will NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE PO ... which means we have no where to find relief.
Those of us with insurance are being tossed to the wolves like unprotected cattle.
There was NO TALK at all regarding Premium CAPS/Premium Relief ... nothing ... nada.

20. Not much if limits aren't placed on how much they can charge |
|
to cover preexisting conditions. In HR3200 they can charge up to 11% of your income for premium - which is a pretty hefty amount. We'll see what happens to that provision - I'm sure the industry didn't pay good money to Congress to get told how much they can charge.

4. investors agree with that prediction, today at least |
|
there's no way to predict what will happen, but the people who have money at stake and who really are interested in making money are seeing good times ahead for health insurance companies. Health stocks rallied today.

The credit card companies did it before the CARD act so what makes you think the insurance co's wont?
Are they more honorable?
Can you point me to ANYTHING that Obama said last night that would offer protection to those of us already paying exorbitant premiums?

12. If you can't afford your premiums you get to choose the PO |
|
This is why insurance companies will be forced to compete.

Thats not the only qualifier for elig. for the public option.
It wont be that easy you cant walk in and say "My premium is too high"
Im sure there will be some voodoo math (just like Pell grants) where THEY will
determine how much you really need of your paycheck to support your family.
Making the PO not available to everyone except a small sliver of the population will do nothing
to lower rates for the rest of us.

22. Per HR3200 the exchange will also charge "market rates" |
|
it won't be any cheaper than the private policies.

17. Define "afford". You cant because it hasnt been defined. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 08:52 PM by OwnedByFerrets
There is NO reason for the insurance companies to "compete". They are NOT bound by anti-trust laws. Besides, the way "I" read the proposed bill, IF you have existing insurance you will NOT be eligible for ANY PO.

Exactly the problem for those of us who do have insurance.
Were going to be caught with no place to seek relief from price increases.

Private Insurance companies are going to sell new policies, lots of them.
But, they're going to make less on each one, average, due to the new regulations and, we expect, competition with a public health insurance plan.
The calculus through which profits and costs and regulations and competition determine any given policy cost will vary widely and I don't doubt that for some costs will be higher but for most costs should not be higher, they might be lower, and the coverage will be better.

The cost of premiums WONT lower through so called "competition"
The only competition that will be occurring will be policies within the exchange. The exchange IS NOT PUBLIC.
They are going to make up those loses somewhere and they WONT be able to recoup them in the exchange.
