"Health Insurer Stocks Rise Despite Obama's Call For Change"
"President Barack Obama's speech to Congress urging a health-care overhaul eased investor concerns that insurers will face competition from a government-sponsored health plan, helping move stocks a bit higher Thursday.

Before the speech, managed-care stocks rallied, with UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) and WellPoint Inc. (WLP) hovering near their 52-week highs. The industry saw continued gains Thursday, and Citi analyst Charles Boorady expects shares to benefit further from higher member volumes as the passage of any health-coverage legislation this year should expand enrollment."

5. The stock prices rose because the words "Hope" and "Change"
As defined by the actions of our DLC President are not meaningful words.

Nor is the word "Reform."

so what does that make you? Any better than the liars who are trying to bring him down?

My personal rights vs the FISA bill. But surely my democratic Senators would have my back.

Obama voted for the FISA.

Bush's ridiculous Wall Street-entitling BailOut program that had no meaningful oversight and no regulation as to how it would be spent (We still do not know where it went.)

But surely someone in the Senate running for the office of President would differ with Bush. Especially if they had a clue about how much Main Street drives the real economic engine of this country. (Even articles two weeks ago frome conomists were telling us to get out there and spend because we on Main St are tthe driving force of the economy.)

I understood how Hillary (WalMart) Clinton could vote for President Bush's Bailout, but Obama voted for it too.

Then he was elected President. I was jubilant. I didn't sleep that night I ws so happy, remembering moments like this from his campaign trail:

http://tinyurl.com/mdbtzq

But once in office, I no longer recognized this guy. His appointments were for Monsanto shills like Mike Taylor for the head of the FDA, and like Velsick for head of Agriculture.

Geithner and Bernanke continued the policies that Bush has already used to hurt Main St and glorify Wall Street, especially the firm of Goldman Sachs. Over eitghty billion bucks has been given to Goldman Sachs - no problemo.

But when the governor of my state, California, goes to Geithner to beg and plead for help, Geithner turns down the request. This after the Federal Government has stiffed my stated for probably something like 100 billion. In fact, the total amount that Geithnber refused this state is equal to one half of one percent of the total of Eleven trillion bucks. (Forty percent of us older Californians are out of work, including friends who have Masters degrees, and PhD's. LIbrarians, social workers, project managers teachers, fire fighters, police, et cetera. Out of work. Because the only thing that O's economic team has done is to help the Wall Street crowd.)

It doesn't help when more astute financial friends of mine report to me that should the money we used to bail out a bank help that bank, we don't see much in the way of a return. But if the banks lose, we are to make good their losses.

The money given Wall Street not only didn't help to bail out California, it also hurt the small farmers. So if you like organic food, get some NOW, Baby. They won't be around next year. Cuz the farmers realized that the cost of grain had been bidden up very high in relationship to the price of milk and pork bellies. So they are going into foreclosure. Thanjks, Timmy! Thanks, Ben! While the bigger farms borrow from the parent comapny to tide themselves over so that they can gobble up all the small farms going into foreclosure.

But continue to call people like me who see beyond charisma to the sad reality of downtrodden, boarded up Main Stee anything you want. I am the vicctim of a medical bankruptcy and being called a name or two is the least of my worries. I was hoping that the man in the video above "Got it". But now I realize the "It" he got was a Big Deal that will keep him and his family in their home while many of hte rest of us worry.

Continue to kid yourself for as long as you want. In three years, when this Wall Street bubble bursts, don't say you were't warned.

is lying to make a point. If you can't make your point without lying then maybe you don't have all the facts.

22. Please be a little more specific about just what TrueDelphi is lying about.
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 10:04 PM by dflprincess
Just shouting "you lie" without specifics doesn't mean a thing.

And remember, when Obama was a state senator he liked single payer, now it's "extreme". When he was a candidate he was against mandates, now he's all for them. The higher he rises the more corporate friendly he gets.

Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 01:02 PM by truedelphi
I supposedly have been telling. I do need it spelled out for me; otherwise, I am gonna feel that Cha is simply upset that I see through the Obama charisma to the sad realities that that charisma is bringing about.

I think that Van Jones probably sees through that charisma now, too. As Obama sacking him was one of those sad realities.

23. The mean something to insurance companies
I'm sure the all hoped for the law to be changed so we would be required to buy their shoddy products...and they got it. It meets their definition of reform.

31. Yep, Massachusetts has been touted by the media as a state
Where reform occurred. Never mind that it has hurt most people, who see higher premiums now than before. And many can't afford the mandated requirement that they purchase insurance.

7. The CEO of United Health Care is probably bathing in
champagne tonite. His salary should go up to $110,000 an hour instead of that paltry $105,000 an hour.

25. A friend of mine now has United Healthcare (his employer switched carriers). He's screwed now.
Was in the middle of a series of oral surgeries and now United Healthcare is denying further procedures.

Also, he was forced to switch doctors as his old doctor is not in the UH network.

27. Wall street doesn't seem to understand this Administration very well
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 11:48 PM by andym
Evidence--> look at their recent track record

This is just a small example (one can look at the auto parts makers for even a more dramatic example)

On March 6
BAC = 3.14/share (bank of america)
C = 1.03/share (citibank)

Why, well these stocks fell dramatically in the days preceding this, because Wall Street was convinced Obama would nationalize them. Stories were rampant. See http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=101497127 for example.

But the Administration had already clearly explained/signaled that this was not what they wanted philosophically. Did Wall Street believe them, NO. Analysts were dead wrong in giving bad advice to their clients.

Of course, they then explicitly stated many times subsequently that they would not be nationalized.
Today's prices are:
BAC= 17.17
C = 4.72
------------------------

What does this have to do with the current situation? They don't believe Obama and the congress will pass a strong public option. Perhaps they're right. But based on their track record it will soon be a good time to short these the health insurance stocks.
